I did something that I haven’t done in a decade or so the other day…I went digging in the Ozarks. Digging for cans in the Ozarks has been pretty much over with for a while now, but rarely a few remaining nuggets can be found out there. This was Just a short partial day trip, but I had something I wanted to check out. I recently became aware of an old abandoned forest camp that I didn’t know about previously (and I thought I knew about all that stuff), so I was dying to check it out. Wow, what a super cool spot! There were many remnants of the old camp surviving, including an old chimney, fire pits, outhouse foundations, etc. The old fireplace had a killer pine tree inlay in it. No cans were to be found here, but I was tickled to see what remained of the camp. I love that kind of stuff.
Just down the road on the way out, I spotted an old dilapidated cabin that needed checked out. It had several small dump piles back in the woods along the creek, all 50s/60s stuff and nothing rare, but unexpected fun nonetheless. I managed to get a case of the early Falstaff 3-piece aluminum fan tabs. This can is rarely found not faded, and many of these had nice color, so I snatched up any of them that did not have any fade. Other cans included a few Bismarck flats and some soda cans. The Mission sodas I’m used to seeing as a flat, and these were tabs, so that seemed a bit unusual. A fun little day adventure, and I was home by 4:00.

Any find is cool. Half the fun is just getting out and exploring. It is like being a kid again!

I agree - just getting out and looking is much of the fun; finding something worth bringing home is a bonus. The condition is phenomenal!
I don't believe it's possible for any area the size of The Ozarks to ever truly be "dumped out", and it's worth at least an occasional visit just because of what has been dug there in the past.

Re: Ozark day trip
Great day trip Bob,
I've always liked that Falstaff can. I have one of them faded ones I dug down in the Ozarks years ago with Jay.
Not many brewers used that three piece can. I can think of only two others, Budweiser and National Bohemiam.
The Diet Rites are no slouches, and the Mission tabs are killer IMO.
Like the others have said, it's great just getting out. It's got me fired up!
