NABA National Show in Chicagoland.....

#1

Post by Cap-Sealed »

The NABA National Show in Schaumburg, Illinois (Chicagoland) has sold out the hotel for the week of August 1st. Over 1200 rooms sold! Whose going? I have to go... I grew up in Schaumburg and that's where I lived when I started collecting and dug my first dump (it's a subdivision now). Should be tons of fun!

I plan to be there. NABA Pittsburgh was awesome for this first-time attendee and new member.

I went to a NABA National probably 20 years ago when it was in Naperville, Illinois - also a Chicago suburb, and I killed it! I picked up some stuff there that I later traded for the White Horse "Jumping Horse" O/I ! If I hadn't of gone, that deal would have never happened.

With 1200 rooms sold, that has something to say about c(a)onventions being held in the summer! Plus, it is in the Midwest, so I am sure that has something to do with it too.

Room nights. Over four nights averages around 300 rooms sold.

When I went to the NABA National in Naperville, ILL years ago, I came across a collector from southern Illinois who hit the antique shops on the way up to Chicago. He had 2 full, painted label Our Pride beer bottles by White Eagle Brewing Co from Chicago - by the makers of the Chevalier conetop. I bought both for $20 and had a new one for the shelf. Then I went to Rich LaSusa room and looked at his Chicago labels he had avaliable. There was a mint set of Old Manhattan Bock with the neck label, but it was marked "Trade Only." Rich gladly took my extra Our Pride bottle in trade. I had the other one in hand and was being followed around by another collector. He wanted the last one I had but it was for my shelf. Little did I know these were the only 2 known.

About a year later, Rich calls me up and says he has to have my Our Pride bottle to complete a trade. Says he'll give me his White Horse "Jumping Horse" O/I that came out of a drained lake in Chicago in the 70s. DEAL! My only regret is I don't have a photo of it.

Forget about the stupid overpriced auctions.... go to a show - you'll have more fun and your hard-earned money goes a lot farther! Yeah Buddy!
