Waldorf Beer and Ale N.Y. License C-156 vs C-158

#1

Post by keithker »

Waldorf seems to have sold well in the Buffalo area and required the use of the Buffalo N.Y. License of C-156 or C-158 both being noted on the can. @Longopener and @mtracy64 both noted the variation to Lilek and had can 857A added to the OI Supplement.

So here is the question. Was C-156 a mistake or was there simply a different number used later?

The Waldorf Red Bands use both.

Am I just looking at it too hard?

Kevin, Chris and I all assumed that C-156 was just a mistake. The N.Y. License number was added in 1937, after Forest City's cans changed to comply with the FAA edict regarding the separation of brewery and can company information which was to be required as of 1-01-38. This seemingly coincided with the introduction of the Old Bohemian Lager and Waldorf Red Band, in addition to the existing Ale and Lager cans which had been produced since 1935.

I don't know how to look up the historical licensing information, but a simple error seems more likely than an actual change to the license number . . . Occam and his razor, you know?

That's like the greatest bit of information in the history of history !

I guess they didn't think to un-register when they went out of business in 1944 . . .
