Michigan U.P..it’s the pits!

#1

Post by Jay »

Just back to my brothers house in Cleveland. A nearly week long trip up around Manistique MI was great. Some huge pits near where some old cabins used to be…lots of stuff to clean.

I can’t believe these cans have been buried for 77 years this area kept us busy for a few days. Literally hundreds of cans. Some red Altes zips and Tudors ended the era. I guarantee Michigan is no where nere dumped out…!!!!!!

1st out of the acid….!! No worries Bantam, we had a hard time with the weather cooperating. There’s always more cans to dig.

A few more. We were in cans all week. I haven’t got to cleaning the pre war stuff yet. There were three virgin dumps we found that were just full of Tudors and Budweiser cans. I have never dug so many early to mid 50s Schlitz cans in my life. There were pits just full of them. We also found a pit that had at least 150 Goebel Bantams in it. Also Frankenmuth flats, Pabst, CV, Old German, Altes, Embassy Club, Best, White Black Labels, Drewrys, Goebel 22, luxury beers, extra Dry and of course tons of Pfeiffers. ( IRTP to scene cans) Even a few Rhinelanders and Paul Bunyans. Crazy beer distribution up there. These seven cabins must have housed the North American beer drinking teams practice site…

Absolutely, always some Pfeiffer cans. I kept a ton of them. I’m not a superstitious guy but if I leave minty pfeiffer cans in the woods I wont find much the rest of the trip. Besides, they are over 70 years old and deserve to be on a shelf somewhere when they are that clean. I like to give them to people to spread the word about what a flat top can is. I guess I kinda use them as business cards.

Getting around to cleaning some more cans. Sorry I don’t have home internet so I have to drive to town to post, or I would post more.. A wide variety of cans, even for Michigan.

Great score Jay! Just getting back on here after a long hiatus. Were you able to post the additional cans that you cleaned? Great condition!

I’m leaving on another dumping fiesta next week. Finally cleaned all the cans from this trip. I will do a dumping year in review for Rustlings once I get back home from the North Woods.
