revenue beer stamps

#1

Post by david.treter »

I would like to introduce myself as a new member. I was given a large collection of beer stamps and other revenue stamps by my godfather over 30 years ago who was vice president of Erie Brewing co, Koehler beer. I actually worked there while in college working in the bottling plant, keg house and gave tours of the plant. I was told by one of your members that some of you might be interested in seeing or possibly acquiring the beer stamps.

For example, here is a fairly rare West Virginia beer stamp with Burton Crow's signature that is listed on EBay..

You need to contact Ray Barber; he lives in Erie (Milcreek). He collects everything from Erie and has an amazing collection. He owns the foundation stone and gargoyles from the brewery that are now at the Brewerie at the train station. He would be extremely interested in your collection. Please let me know if you need his contact information.

While I am not interested in beer stamps per se, I am interested in all breweriana. I also would be interested in any stamps from Erie. Are these stamps issued by the IRS? Are there any distinguishing features indicating what beer they were related to? Are their local signatures on these stamps? I ask because my father ran the Erie office of yet IRS for almost 30 years (~1940-1970).

I live in North East. If you ever want to see my collection of breweriana (mostly cans), please let me now.

Thanx.

Hi Jerry,

I lived in Harbor Creek for my high school years. I am very familiar with North East. My Grandparents and my parents house/farm was on the corner of Rt 5 and Mooreheadville road (the old Ricart farm). Like I said, I worked at Erie Brewing while I was in college. I had all types of beer cans from them plus advertising plaques, etc. I regret to say, I tossed them all away when I retired from my business...I thought no one would be interested in them and they were just taking up space...how wrong i was! :smt010

Hi David, Glad you made it over to the RB. If you have anything cancelled in MN, WI, NM, AZ, or FL I would be very interested.
Also, if you have not already found it Eric Jackson has a website of all revenue stamps and is really the guru on them. Love to see more pics of anything.... Andy

Andy, here is what I have from Arizona and I will check the other States to see what I have. I've been in contact with Eric J. a year ago and he didn't seem to be interested in anything I had...even the multi sheets.

Thanks for moving this to a different area. I'm new here and I didn't know where to place my thread. For a moment, I thought my discussion was banned/deleted since I couldn't find it on 'other" discussions. I just hope others will enjoy this and help me to get a handle on these stamps. I am just getting my feet wet and can use any help or info. Thanks!

I don’t know if the pictured piece fits necessarily in the revenue stamps category, but I figure this is the closest category. I have had this item for a few years now. I don’t know if it is common or scarce, that doesn’t matter because I like it. It is an unused piece, so no specific brewery is notated on it.

Hey David, Are you still here at all? Somehow completely missed that you have posted the AZ stamps months ago. Do you still have the collection? Would love to talk if we can... Andy

Finally ran into someone that had some tax stamps at the ABA show this past weekend. Then I forgot to circle back to him to get one or two. Duh!
I hope he goes to NABA in Chicago, or BCCA in Louisville.
