Herman the German crane formerly of U.S. Navy

If you served in the U.S. Navy, you may have heard about "Herman the German". It's a very large crane originally built by the Germans during WWII to help in shipyard repairs. After the war, this crane and two others were seized as part of war reparations by the Allies. The crane later nicknamed "Herman the German" was transported to Long Beach, California where it served the U.S. Navy until 1996. At that time, the crane was sold to Panama to serve in the Panama Canal. It still serves there today. I took the picture below last week.
