Ran across this picture on Shorpy this morning and had to crop it down and share. Not sure what she's doing with it. Drinking water? Bait bucket? Early beer can collector? Young beer connoisseur?
Wonder where this can wound up?

Thanks for sharing that.
It looks as though the cone lip has been cut off.

Re: Wonder where this can wound up?
Cute pic. Good catch that the cap lip is missing. If it's still around you could trace where it came from...
At first I thought the can might be a bobber for a yo-yo or trot line but maybe it's a bobber for the lunker she's planning on hauling in with that cane pole. A can and a cork would make a good bobber but that sharp edge from removing the lip would likely cut the line. I wonder if the fabric that's tied off over her arm is how she hauled home the catch of the day.

My guess is it's used to hold the pole and walk away.

I cropped this from a larger picture. She's with her big sister who has a bunch of fish on a stringer.

Love pics like this that really capture the era. Almost like you are there.
Any idea of what state she's standing in?

I meant to include the location. It's given as Melrose, Natchitoshes Parish, Louisiana in 1940.
