BIG SKY DIG
Did some July digging over the summer, went on another fantastic Cap-Sealed adventure. This time to Big Sky country.
It was planes, trains, and automobiles, on Friday morning, took the 6:10am train to Chicago's, Ohare airport, on through Dallas and then on to Salt Lake City. where I met up with Ed Scoglietti, from New Mexico, and Bill Lindstrom, from Texas. They had already rented a truck and were ready to roll when I landed. From there we drove on up to Steve Armstrong's place in Idaho Falls. We were joined by Jim "Conehead" Hall who drove up from Utah. So, Friday evening we picked up supplies and packed the trucks. Saturday morning, we were on our way, a week of camping and digging in the historic Rocky Mountains of western Montana. Yeah Baby!! Here's a bunch of pictures of our summer adventure. As we headed to our first destination, the old map showed a road on up to where we wanted to go, after several miles on this gravel road we were forced to turn around as this road is now private property and would not allow us to pass. We re-routed and found another road up the mountain after several miles down this road we got a flat tire on the rental truck. Turns out this truck had four different tires on it, and the one with the flat was only like four-Ply. But the spare was good once we figured out how to get it down. We changed the tire but didn't want to get to remote without a spare, So, Ed and Bill Drove back about fifty miles to get a new tire. Steve, Jim and I went on ahead in Steve's truck, those guys would meet up with us later. Jim digs some Pre-Pro Bottles I find a 30s pit Pabst Exports, pit was full of water must have been a spring, color was good but the seems and lids were gone on most. Bill and Ed caught up to us, they only lost about three hours. We found a few common cans in this area, Great Falls, some Highlanders, we decided to move on to a different location. Another tire in our rental had a slow leak, we decided to get it plugged. Late in the afternoon we make it to our next camp. Right at our site Steve noticed a big depression, and then bleeped four other pits. This 30s pit had Drewry's lager ois, that did not excite me much, I didn't cpme all the way to Montana to dig Drewrys Lagers. But I did keep one are the semi-metalic var. I dug the pit next to this one.... just food cans and bottles. Jim tried to hold out from telling us till he pulled up a better one but he couldn't hold his excitement. He dug a Butte Special low pro! WOW! we were all so excited, especially for him, Conehead Jim digs the rare Montana cone, great moment. though the cone is missing looked good right out of the ground. we end up pulling three out of the hole with three or four rough Highlander cones.

Re: BIG SKY DIG
We celebrated by having our steak dinner.
After dinner we continued digging the big pit which was full of cans, late fifties to mid sixties, actually some pretty good condition. Highlanders, great falls, Best Beers, Embassy Club, Schmit scenes, Jublelies 11,12, 15 and 16oz and lots of soda. We dug with head lamps and had the laturn in the pit as well. we dug till about 1:00am that night, total blast, great day
Ed located this abandoned camp, we found the old stone stoves, then Steve located the camp pit a "bomb crater" same age as the last one with alot of the same brands.
We found another camp pit, this one was pushed around and covered with rocks
more pics coming up....Hello Rusty Jonesin

Re: BIG SKY DIG
Thanks again, to Steve Armstrong for putting up with us at his house on both ends of the trip. Steve has an amazing collection of MT/ID breweriana/cans, lo-pro cones, OIs & Bock cans. Maybe next year we can have a dump trip and then a show at Steve's town of Idaho Falls, ID. Not to be confused with Frostbite Falls - Home of Rocky & Bullwinkle!

Re: BIG SKY DIG
Thanks Dwight, it's fun going to different places to dig. I never stayed in Montana before and of course didn't have any cans from there.
Fun Times. It was cool telling people; I'm going digging in Montana.

Re: BIG SKY DIG
The song "Fred Bear" by Ted Nugent was our dumping theme song for Montana. You have to play the video and look at Rusty's pix for the full effect. Bob & Andy's dumping theme song is "White Bird" by Its a Beautiful Day...... congrats to those rascals for another Lucky Dumper Award!
I think our song for the next digging trip will be "Rosalie" by Thin Lizzy!
BTW - how is Ted Nugent not in the Rock & Roll HOF ????
