Canadian Packaging
Here's some of my wooden packages, I suspect that the keg was our earliest so I'll start there,
A large one, Not so large, and the end off one, Getting off the wooden track briefly, a couple woven bags, Back to the wood, We had two different sizes of wooden crates for bottles, one for what they called large (quarts) and small (pints)
Here a few for quarts, STAY SAFE!

Re: Canadian Packaging
A couple more of the larger ones,
Here's a couple Twelve pack carriers for quarts, I believe these were used by the corner stores in Quebec as they offered local grocery delivery.
Here's a box from O'Keefe's that was used for their water bottles,
A couple small crates from Ontario,
STAY SAFE!

Re: Canadian Packaging
A Keg head from Canadian Breweries,
Here's a crate for a single 3 litre bottle, Here's what I would consider is Canada first "steel can" Contents are about 10 litre or 2.5 US gallons
Heuther's operated under this name from 1927 (the end of prohibition in Ontario) till 1936 when they changed the name to Ranger Brewing. On it's side ready to pour, all done, STAY SAFE!
Dow Breweries, I was told that brewers marked both inside and outside of the boxes to deter other companies from knocking the sides off, turning them over and printing their name on the crate.
Labatt's came out with some retro boxes in the 80's and 90's,
as did Moosehead,
Sleeman had a 12 pack retro box,

Re: Canadian Packaging
Here's a few 12 packs for the quart bottles,
STAY SAFE!
The Stubby was introduced nation wide across Canada sometime in 1961 and was replaced with longer necked bottles sometime in the early 80's, the next few cases are from the stubby era,
A few boxes for the larger bottles since that era,
In Ontario we had 12 packs that were 2 X 6,
In Quebec they had 12 packs that were 3 X 4,
STAY SAFE!

Re: Canadian Packaging
Cans came in Twelve packs in two basic designs...these 3X4's
The other design used was 2X6's,
710ML cans had this style of a carton,
Larger cans came in 3X4 open top cartons,
This oddball 18 pack carton promoting some hockey team,

Re: Canadian Packaging
@Tinman
Nice that you included sample content with most containers.
Do have a Moosehead cone? You might consider putting a post in the Advertise/Wanted section. You never know. Someone may have an extra or a downgrade they'd be willing to let go. If nothing else, you'll have more eyes out there looking...
I looked them up in the Foreign Can Supplement because I never saw one. They list two. The first one is from 1953 and the second is from 1955.

I agree with Conehead!

Re: Canadian Packaging
Here's some 24 packs or as they are frequently referred to as a Two Four,
One produced for the foreign market,
Sometime around 1959 there was a huge innovation.... Handles were introduced...
In Quebec they had a deposit of 25 cents on their HD boxes,
In 1961 we had the stubby introduced,
Brewers offered mixed product in the 24 packs,
Some Brewers had Seasonal cases,
The stubby was gone by the mid 80's,
A Couple from Quebec,

Re: Canadian Packaging
Here's one for the soda collectors,
A Classic case of over packaging, The Labatt retro boxes in post # 5 came in cardboard boxes,
Some time in the 90's brewers were permitted to introduce more than the regular 24's, O'keefe was one of the first to do so,
I found this in Michigan,

Re: Canadian Packaging
@Tinman Dave, I have been looking at your Canadian bottles to see if I could identify ones I have.
In college, 1969 - 1971, I was a member of the Zeta Psi fraternity. In 1983 I ran into a Canadian member, who also collected beer stuff.
He sent me 3 bottles from the 100th year anniversary of their chapter. Original beer labels washed off and Zeta Psi labels attached.
First 2 bottles are still full, see foil neck wraps. No markings on the bottoms. Left bottle has words on the neck wrap: Brassin exclus(l?) over Premium brewed.
Can you identify the brands of beer/ale in the 2 full bottles?
Also any other Zeta Psi members on here?
Thanks, Baxter

Re: Canadian Packaging
Great story, The long neck bottle is most likely Brador, there's a picture of a box with the bottle on it near the end of the second last post.. I suspect that the other foil wrap stubby is also Brador as it was one of a very few brands that had foil wrap tops. Brador was our first high alcohol content brand... 6.5% I think... The other ???? stubbies were used by every brewer in Canada for close to 20 years.Baxter wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 4:44 pm @Tinman Dave, I have been looking at your Canadian bottles to see if I could identify ones I have.
