Which USBC row would you choose?
This has probably been done before but things are a bit slow and I'm interested. So here goes, if you could own the cans in any one row in either USBC book which would you choose? I'm thinking horizontally but you may vertically if you choose.

Re: Which USBC row would you choose?
The cones align more fortuitously for this than the flats . . . row 3 on page 150 has Apache, Apex, Arbee, Arrowhead and Associated, consecutively no less, and row 3 on page 185 is even better - Silver, Silver Dime, Silver State, Silver Stock, Southern Select.

Re: Which USBC row would you choose?
USBC 2, tabs. While there are several lines with 2 or 3 great cans there is only a single line full of them. I see some lines I'd like to have (actually quite a few) but there is a clear winner here.
82 line 4 is quite nice and might even be 2nd place but it's the line right below it which is the obvious choice. Page 82, bottom row. BOOM, drop the mic. Conversation over. All seven in a single line plus a non-white stripe to boot!

As a California collector, that top row of 173 -- Lifestaff, Lisco, London Tavern, Maier Gold Label and the Maier stein girl, plus throw in a London Bobby -- is a favorite.

Re: Which USBC row would you choose?
I used to have a little ceremony every time I finished a page of the quart cones (not counting the unpictured ones, of course).
A single row, though...
204 row 1 has 4 asz-kicker cans (breed's 1/2 n 1/2, Brockert, and two bruck's ales)
208 row 1 has all the notoriety but 'just' 3 ungettable cans
209 row 1 would be just sick
and a couple other rows with 3 cans you'd never get. I tapped out at 202, 206, and 213 with a couple more just a can away.

Better to drive 950 miles and kick asz than go a thousand miles and get nothing.

Re: Which USBC row would you choose?
Maybe this could get turned into a tournament. At the risk of hijacking the thread too much, I would suggest open it to all the beer can books.
There is a page in the Conetop Bible with 3 LP Kato's, strawberry included, and a Keiwel's. I think Class has a line with Lion and Manhattan Bock and some other neat stuff in the b/w pages up front. ooh saw a line with J spout Southern Select, Travis, and Time in it too.
Could start it out with vertical vs horizontal brackets- one line on one page only. or just by can types- Maybe do 12oz cone 12oz flat 12oz pulls qts and other sizes.
Before this goes too far I think we'd need a ruling on Myer's "some Thoughts on the beer can's first 35 years" and all of Will Anderson's books, etc.... Could call it a 6th cat and call it wide open Some line in that picture of John Ahren's might make the cut

Re: Which USBC row would you choose?
How about the top row of page 132 of USBC 1?
My row has one of my grails- the Schwegmann Bock, unquestionably the most expensive can related to New Orleans.
It also has Schoenling Bock, which for my money is one of the most attractive bock cans ever, and two Schultz cans that are obviously quite rare- and both attractive cans.
Not too shabby.

I am fortunate enough to be the current caretaker of 4 of the cans from that row. I used to have all 8 but have cut back in recent years.Dixie Dave wrote: ↑Wed Jul 15, 2020 9:58 am How about the top row of page 132 of USBC 1?

Re: Which USBC row would you choose?
Enjoyable thread here, for wishful thinkers. So I looked through the volume 1 book to see what I already had and if I had a complete 8-can horizontal row of anything. Came close with several 6 or 7 out of 8 on some rows but always a $1000+ or withdrawn free can to break the streak.
My only complete 8-can row was page 89, bottom row.
I am sure others have complete 8-can rows, the set cans of Drewrys, Meister Brau and Schmidt Scenics look easy. Perhaps also Bud, Falstaff, Lucky, Miller, Pabst and Schlitz specialists have complete a complete row or two.

Re: Which USBC row would you choose?
Well, that's an interesting spin on the question. I had to check to see if there is a row where I collect them all - there's only one, and it comes with an asterisk. I've got nine Tru Blu flats, same as the book, but three of mine aren't pictured and the book shows two white ones that are IRTP without stating what the difference is. USBC-OI lists one with orange instead of red, but the two in USBC both look red and I'm not sure I consider the orange one a real difference anyhow. I guess I only have five of the eight that are pictured in a single row, since I don't have two IRTP white ones or the WF one, and my green Ales both have the U-Permit number.oldindiapaleale wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 8:59 pm Enjoyable thread here, for wishful thinkers. Aside from that, five is the most I collect from any given row in the book, two instances, and in both cases I have all five - the IRTP Old Milwaukees and the five J-Spouts beginning with "Pi". I have six Krueger's Cream Ales, but the book only shows five and they're split into two rows.
Addendum: Oops, I collect Old Dutch from Brooklyn also - USBC has six in one row, five in the next. I have three from each row, the most obtainable ones, and will consider myself extremely fortunate to add even one more.

Re: Which USBC row would you choose?
Much as I like p220, row three: those quarts(!), it would have to be my alternate choice as I agree with an above poster on p.150, row three: the cones in that row: Apache, Apex, Arbee, Arrowhead, etc. This is my answer to the original question.
The last few posters have mentioned having the cans from certain rows, and that is interesting in itself. For me, the closest I come is p. 133, row 2 of which I have them all except for the controversial (and I believe probably not a legitimate) can with the white label, #10. I don't believe it has ever proven to exist--certainly not in gr. 1 shape.

First Choice: Page 192 Row 5. I would add three to my collection: Cooper Ale, red and yellow Cremo, and a DuBois Budweiser. And upgrade my Cremo woodgrain.
Second Choice: Page 198 Vertical Row 6, Starting with the Ortlieb's Ale, ending with the Silver Stock. I would add only two, the Ortliebs Ale and Pilser's Premium variation, but a grade 1 Silver Stock would be a fabulous upgrade.
