“Metallic malted alcoholic beverage containers”

Anyone know where quote this came from?

Back in the late 70’s or early 80’s I read that in some BCCA literature...or something...somewhere. There was a quote from a collector to the effect of, “When I tell people I collect beer cans, they look at me like I’m crazy. So I tell them I collect metallic malted alcoholic beverage containers.”

It stuck with me all these years and I’ve used it a bunch. Wondering if that person is on these forums.

Funny. I can relate to that collector. If I tell people I collect beer cans, they might think I am strange. If I tell them I collect antiques related to the brewing industry, it is okay. The word "antiques" gets more respect so using that to describe what I do helps.
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

Didn't that quote come from Lew Cady's beer can book? I think I remember reading it there.

Thanks. That might be it! Long gone now, but I used to have that book.

I think the first thing people imagine when you tell them you’re a beer can collector is a big pyramid of recently- consumed Bud or Pabst cans like you’d see in a dorm room.
