Crown Find
Picked these two up today at a garage sale. Anything unusual?

Re: Crown Find
Not "unusual" unless the alcohol % is an unusual one. But darn nice finds for a garage sale? They look pretty clean and they've got to be $30-50 cans I think.

Re: Crown Find
As a general rule, 5% variations are less common than 3.2% and 4% versions. I believe this is a tougher variation. It was not listed on the BCCA cone top catalog (circa mid 80s). Nice find!

Re: Crown Find
I'm not an expert, but from my experience the "Legend No." on the striped Gluek crowntainers refers to which alcohol statement is on the can:What does 'Legend No. 3' mean?
1 = Does not contain more than 3.2% of alcohol by weight
2 = STRONG
3 = Contains 5 per centum of alcohol by volume
4 =
5 = Does not contain more than 4% of alcohol by weight
Not sure what Legend No. 4 is or if they ever used it, but could be one of these:
Contains more than 4% alcohol by volume
Contain 4% of alcohol by weight
No alcohol statement
Also don't know if there are Legend Numbers greater than 5.
Does anyone know which states required which statements?

Re: Crown Find
I seem to find unusual pieces.
Does the above value of $30-50 stand?
Thank you all for the great information.

Re: Crown Find
I'd say definitely 50-there is a STRONG version, but this one is tougher. (In this Minnesotans opinion)
In ease of acquiring Gluek crowntainers,I'd say
Red Label
Blue label
Maroon striped
Blue striped
Paper label crowntainer
Powder blue low pro flat bottom
" " concave bottom
Then the 2 gold metallic low pros (VERY hard in ANY shape)
Any of the alcohol statements that say BY WEIGHT are generally tougher.

Re: Crown Find
Eric - Great information on the Legend numbers. I had never thought about it!
Barry – Thanks for the ranking on the Gluek’s crowntainers. I’m curious about the alcohol statements “By Weight” vs “By Volume” and why one version is more difficult than the other. I guess this is another ‘State’s requirements’ issue that will one day be compiled…
