Lake Michigan

I went over to the lake this evening. I was tired of being in the house. I thought some people here would enjoy these pictures. These were taken at Windsnest Park in Port Sheldon Township. The beaches are unusually small right now because the level of Lake Michigan is at an historic high right now.

The beaches on Lake Erie are also small with much shoreline erosion due to the high water levels. On the waterfront in Erie, larger waves are breaking over the docks. It looks like the water levels are 1-2 feet above normal, but not much worse than last year.

I went over to Kouw Park on Sunday. The private landowner to the immediate north of the park is in the process of building a seawall. A barge dropped off the excavator in the picture. Then, a barge returns with rocks that are dropped into the lake as close to shore as the barge can manage. Then, the excavator moves the rocks into the proper position. I cannot imagine how much this much be costing the landowner. Whatever it is, they are probably happy to pay it after seeing other homes fall down the dune.
