License plates

#1

Post by chaunasknight »

My son started collecting license plates a few years back and now has hundreds of them. He has many extra Washington and Oregon plates. Anyone out there care to do some trading for whatever state you have extra from? The farther east the better!

I know each state has issued many many different plates. If ya'll could send me or post a picture of what flavor you have, he can compare to what he has and see if it's something he needs. We'd appreciate it!

I've got a bunch too, many from back east, and '70s and earlier. I'll have to do a little inventory.

Last year, Truckwash Doug & I were driving through Illinois on our way to a show in Springfield, and saw this garage while off the beaten path. B.t.w., all four sides are covered.

In Michigan you can register and license your classic car with a Michigan plate of the same vintage (over 25 years old) for $30 for as long as you own the car. Only stipulation is that it is "Not For General Useage". I have a 1968 plate on my GTO.

We have a similar program in Texas where cars registered as a Classic or Antique can use same year license plates. The plates need to be a matching pair and inspected by TXDOT to make sure they are in readable condition. I have vintage plates on my '66 Mustang. In addition, cars registered as an antique do not need to carry a current inspection sticker. There is a vendor that sets up at swap meets that carries reproduction Texas inspection stickers dating back to when they were first required by the state, so my car carries a 1966 inspection sticker as well.
