That is a beast. Estimated to be 50 years old. If it is like me, it is one tough old SOB and won't be very good to eat.

Re: big fish...
Kev, The striper run lasted 2 weeks along the delmarva coast ... ended a week ago. I wish I was equipped to go after them. But there were only 4 or 5 days that were calm enough to get out. They are in Virginia now but the season is closed in Va waters of the Chesapeake. (facebook photos of some of my new friends)

Re: big fish...
They don't weigh them... they are quickly released... In Florida, some species you are not allowed to land the fish... Tarpon? I think is one.

Would like to try that sometime. But would need to surround the hole with a Tiki Bar so I feel at home.

I’ll take you anytime, Chuck! Great view of Madtown, plenty of space out here. That fish was immediately released, still swimming- should be a trophy next year. Ziphippie

Re: big fish...
Glad you preformed CPR, catch, photo, release, on the fish. Down here, we quit holding big fish that way. The fish has spent its whole life horizontal. Holding it vertically like that can allow the internal organs slide out of position. The fish will swim away, but may die later. Better picture this way also.

Re: big fish...
All the boat ramps were closed? I saw on the news today that the governor of Florida considers golf courses essential so all of those are open. Maybe you should invite the governor fishing. He obviously does not have sufficient appreciation for the sport.
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

Re: big fish...
Closed ramps? Can you still fish? I’d freak.
Fishing remains open here in WI, still early catch and release season on trout but state waterways are open for gamefish- food is essential. Ziphippie

Re: big fish...
I walk alot of streambanks in southern WI- this’s only my third, and biggest, shed find sporting a ten inch sticker! New pooch seems interested, shed sniffer-dog in training. Wish I could take her fishing but retrievers and water are a no go for stealthy approaches. Ziphippie

I was able to get out over the weekend and found a bunch of little snook to play with. Got them on topwater and spoons. Was nice to have something pull back.

Re: big fish...
-small fish are better than no fish, sometimes things don’t go as planned.
Spicoli and I did some river cleanup yesterday- paddled for about nine hours on the Yahara in southern WI. Early catch and release bass season now, so first time ever using big baits this early. Caught a bunch of small fish, lost two muskies on my ultralight throwing a small spinner- I always go light for a good time in the kayak. Some colored glass was spotted on the shoreline and Spicoli dove into the thick underbrush.... “there’s a cone, and there’s a cone and oh, here’s a pile.” Ziphippie

Re: big fish...
canz are coming out of the acid- cones were green Walters. I was expecting the flattops to be PBR’s and not much more than that! 8oz. Goebels, black Millers, ‘54 Schlitzer, green Old Style, Wausau Schoen’s, black Weber, Bally’s, Red Cap (there was a Red Cap dump near my house growing up, these were less than a mile downstream) and big eagle Bergoffs! Love the Bergoffs, should’ve found these a long time ago- paddled here for over forty years. grrrrrrrrr. Ziphippie
update: my older bro remembers the Red Cap dump. He said a neighbor cleaned it out and built his awesome collection trading 300-400 really nice Red Caps from this spot in the early 70’s. The ones I’ve found over the years nearby were from Belleville-- Ziphippie

Re: big fish...
been hammering some nice walleyes, always get a straggler esox- watch Spicoli battle it out in the current with a 38” muskie on 8lb. monofilament. He didn’t know I was there, I’m standing in the water hidden under a tree- didn’t start filming for a couple minutes into the fight. Ziphippie

Re: big fish...
Second tarpon trip of the year was a success. I went 2 for 3. But I really feeling my age. These fish hurt and I’m very sore today. That being said, if you every get the chance to fish for them, DO IT. They are a blast.
