There are more muskies per acre in Lake Wingra than any other in the county, heavy fishing pressure though and a huge crowd of people will gather to this spot for pics. Not many big fish but they show up. This does happen everywhere, this is just too easy for zoo visitors. There was a taller dam there ten years ago, they changed it just so the WI State Journal could post pics every stinking year (in my opinion). They travel through swampland to reach this spot as it is not part of the Madison chain of lakes. Don’t bring an outboard to that lake- not allowed. Very nice, quiet setting for a day on the water.....unless you have a crowd of people cheering as a fish breaches the dam. Woohooo- get outside. Ziphippie

Not a caught fish, but may be of interest.

Rules vary throughout the state. Any that are caught from the Detroit River have to be released immediately. Other lakes in the state have rules like one per season or smaller than 50" has to be released, etc.

Where was the sturgeon caught? 100 years ago, Lake Erie was a huge producer of sturgeon, but they got fished out.

Thanks Chuck! I fish small, unlisted waters in southern WI not known for big trout. My brother (he used to say, “Got ‘eeem”) and I found these spots in the 70’s and I rarely see anyone out there other than some kayakers. They have destroyed much of the natural cover carving a path through the tangles, grrrrr. Been looking to put a two footer on the wall, this one was 23.25” and skinny so it’s still swimming.
