NOT HAPPY WITH IT!
Just looked on the BCCA site and they're selling the 50th CANvention shirts.
Please tell me that's not going to be the design for the 50th CANvention can! What grade school class won the design contest on that one?
In my opinion, if that is the design, I don't know if I want it in my CANvention set. I expected more for the 50th. The can should at least be gold. Last year I humorously suggested a gold can with the design of the first CANv can but with current Board names.
The organization continues to disappoint.
Here's a link if you want to buy one:
https://www.bcca.com/canvention-shirts/

Here's the designs:
Edited The Title. Hate Is Too Strong. Actually Like The Shirt Design But Still Not As A 50th Once In A Lifetime Artifact.

Re: I HATE IT!
@MI-Cans Edski....hopefully I can provide some of the details. Every can and logo design is the honor of the host city Chapter. In this case it is the Gateway Chapter. As with any design project there are many ideas thrown around. I've seen multiple variations of what they worked on. Many folks you are familiar with had a big part in the design of the logo. The BCCA does not specifically direct their design and try to support that host Chapters effort.
I can't go into any details that might be related to a "gold can" at this time.
Hoping @halfquart Mark can help explain anything I might have left out.

Re: I HATE IT!
@keithker
OK. This is an assumption on my part because the CANv 49 shirt resembled the can. I bought and paid for that can just to continue my collection.
The 50th can only be celebrated once.
A design contest should've been held a year or so ago open to ALL Chapters and ALL BCCA members for their ideas/suggestions. Maybe nothing usable would've come out of it but it could've shown the Chapters and members how much they're valued more than just paying dues.
I'm not trying to belittle the host chapter or anything like that. This'll be the 5th CANvention in that state and the third in St. Louis. Good for them!
Again...this is my personal opinion and conjecture that if that's the can design for the 50th, I don't like it. And yes, I'll buy one for my CANv collection.

Re: I HATE IT!
Discussion with some has forced me to clarify something. The design on the shirt is nice, clean and appropriate for a regular CANvention and I would like it for that kind of use.
I believe that you only get one shot at celebrating the 50th of anything. It is unique. It can only happen once. I feel that the can should be over the top. Something you'll only see once in a lifetime. Something really unique. Something paying tribute to Chapters and Members of those 50 years. Some kind of highlights of the Hobby. Anything but not a standard CANvention can.
I hope this clarifies my thoughts and if I've offended anyone, I apologize.

Re: I HATE IT!
If I were designing this shirt I would have put the design on a red shirt and gotten rid of the box. Otherwise I think its a clever design.

Re: I HATE IT!
As Keith explained, the shirt design is the privilege of the host chapter. However, as the 50th Canvention is also a significant event, might there be an opportunity for a regular Canvention design AND a 50th Canvention design? There may not be precedent, but there has not been a 50th Canvention before either. Just wondering...

Re: I HATE IT!
I don't mind the Canvention shirt at all myself.
But the regular BCCA T-shirts and polos, I wanted to suggest adding a second T-shirt with a different logo and look. This is what we have now:

I would love to own a BCCA shirt, but I will never buy one with that logo, which reminds me of a funeral home.

Re: NOT HAPPY WITH IT!
The shirts the Cornhusker Chapter had in Omaha were awesome. No giant plastic print to stick to my back, simple cool design, and with a nice price tag!!! Would be nice to have something like that as a 2nd option at CANvention this yr. or some THROWBACK shirts that say BEER CAN COLLECTORS OF AMERICA. I'd buy one of those. Good seeing BCCA do pre-orders, seems like a lot of $$$ wasted on unsold CANvention shirts.

Re: NOT HAPPY WITH IT!
I am sure Gateway Chapter will sell shirts as well. In fact I thought I saw an opportunity to purchase one on FaceBook. If I find it or see it again, I will post in here.

Re: NOT HAPPY WITH IT!
From FB Post: We were hoping to sell a few of these at Swap-a-Rama, but since the show is now cancelled we wanted to offer them FOR SALE via mail. President Al Kell has a variety of sizes available and we can ship to you for a price of $20 including shipping. If interested contact via PM either Al Kell or myself (Patty Kious) and we’ll check to make sure we have your size and work on getting one to you.
Don't believe Al or Patty are on this forum.
