Golf Ball Beer Can'ts - threshold crossed

#1

Post by Rand »

Never knew there were this many variations out there.....the numbers kinda crept up on me as I was collecting them. Anyway, just crossed the 61 golf ball beer cant threshold! Here's a picture of the ones I've found so far:

And if you want to see details behind every can, they are all documented here:

Well sir it is quite obvious at this point. When you fall in love with something, you fall hard and deep!

Nice stuff. It appears to me that you have 60 domestic and one foreign. So it appears that Beck can might be something truly special. I don't really know though, just a guess.

Also, I noticed how some listed the contents (two golf balls) while others didn't bother to change the font at all. I found that interesting.

Finally, the Leininkugals is my favorite.

Thanks for sharing,
Brad

Thanks! Yea....it's super interesting....kinda hooks you once you start into it :-)

Becks was one of the toughest....along with the first Genny sitting right next to it.

They all list the two golf ball contents....just not all on the front...those that don't, the contents drift around to the side often all the way to the story panel.

They all are sealed and have golf balls in them, except for the old Genny....the balls are there but the top was popped.

Every time I was able to get a duplicate, I would remove the top off of the worst condition can, and take a picture of the balls with the best condition can. But I'm not going to open a sealed can just to see if the balls have logos.....will wait for a duplicate. With that said, all of them do have the logos so far....all documented on the website:

As to dating them.....hummm. Just so you know, these golf ball cans come in two flavors.
1) Cardboard tube with a paper label wrapped/glued to the outside
2) Painted steel can

I've kinda always assumed that the steel cans were the oldest. There are very very few of them, they had to be more expensive to make, and they tend to be the older labels. With that said, the Genny #1 Brewer can is of the cardboard/paper wrap variety......so while the can design has some years on it, the can construction is of the newer/cheaper style. As to which are the steel cans....there are only 7
First Budweiser
First Michelob
First Busch
Old Milwaukee
First Schlitz
Schlitz Light
Schlitz Malt Liquor

Hope that helps you narrow it down!
