Canvention - No Stairs!

#1

Post by Matt Menghini »

Just checked in. Hotel is nice. Configuration is two wings each floor. 20 rooms each side. Twenty floors. Problem is that the hotel has the stairwells locked. If you go in the stairwell, you can only come out at ground level. Should make room to room interesting. There are four elevators. Matt

On the good side ... the Zoo here is awesome. Highly recommended. The botanical garden and the aquarium are also nice, but the Zoo is really nice. Also, the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History is pretty interesting. They have a B-52 exhibit so more there than you will ever want to know about the B-52. They also have a Delorean which is a nice touch.

Room to room starting to move a bit. Looking forward to it. Matt

ROOM to room sucked big time. Because the stairwells were locked you had to ride the elevator from one floor to the next. The elevator control system soon became jammed up and you couldn't get an elevator to anywhere. Josh figured out how to crash the service elevators the week before the show, but that didn't help much Wednesday night. Most people gave up on Room-to-room by 10:00pm and the place was dead. I picked up 2 cans all night.

The BCCA should never ever do this again.

That is too bad. The room to room was a great time at the CANventions that I have attended.

Thanks to all the NM/Roadrunner folks who did the heavy lifting to make this happen. The hotel was beautiful....rooms super nice.....internet solid and fast....convention center was right across the street with a huge trading floor......food and drinks available right there on the floor.....meeting rooms were spacious and plentiful.....all this just a few minutes from the airport....everything seemed to be well organized and from what I could tell ran smoothly. Had a great time and would like to thank everybody that put in all the hard work to make it happen.

BCCA should strive for a high quality environment like this every time.
