Crown Repair : time lapse photos

#1

Post by Cantageous »

Today I received s cap from Erik at Tavern Trove. I quickly opened the envelope to find the cap was flattened on one side. I was bummed.

Luckily, I own a Reser Crown Press.

Here are the photos

The missing pic shows the press set In a shop vise and squeezed back into shape

If you cap you cones, this is just as valuable as a capper

Cheers

Keith

Hi all,
Just wondering if the crown press is still available for sale and where?
If someone has one that they would like to sell, please PM me.

Thanks much!

Is that the tool you use to "flair" the cap?

Yes. You need to remove the old cork to get the best results. I have a tool I bought at Hobby Lobby that acts like a punch. It punches out perfect size round discs of cork. The cork you can buy in rolls of your not picky about using authentic cork. I find that 2 discs of thin cork help cap my cans better. To each his own. Let me know if you want to see the rest of the process

Ok. I was in the area and my buzz is ripe, so I'm posting the other tools in use.

Here is the punch and cork

The discs have a adhesive side, which is covered by a removable piece

Roughly how much does a flaring tool cost and where do you get one? Thanks for posting. Interesting!

They're about $40. Email Lonnie Reser at Lonnie Reser at lonmar@att.net as he is the one that makes and sells them. You'll need a good bench vice or arbor press as well.

That sounds about right. Worth every penny if you cap your own cones.

I'm expecting s Fehrs Race Horse cap any day now , I hope

It's pretty screwed up. Ripped flutes, bent and won't even set on a can by itself. But. It's very tough and it was free. lol

I'll do another before after. When I get it
