Kaier's j-spout?

#1

Post by canman65 »

Hi Guy's,
I have had a lot of book time lately, and was wondering how many of #170-19 are out there? A very cool looking can.
Thanks in advance!

I know that's a very tough can in any condition. Much more common in a High Profile. I'm sure Marc T. would know more about it. LEON.

Mine came from a 2007 wall find in Chester, PA. I got first choice of the four cans found. The find also included six Wolf's Beers, four M.C. Beers and a Silver Dime.

The only other indoor can I've seen is a grade 1-ish can that turned up on eBay many years ago. I have seen a fair number of dumpers over the years, mostly really poor condition, but a couple that were quite nice. I'd guess that I've seen at least 25 total, including a group of about a dozen very poor examples that sold on eBay 10+ years ago.

Thanks, Jack. I had a pretty decent outdoor can on the shelf when the find occurred, but I couldn’t pass up an indoor can. Matt's can is very nice also, and is one I hadn't seen before. It looks like it's probably better than one of the four from the find, and it's definitely better than any of the outdoor cans I've seen. Danny's can is better than most of the outdoor cans I've seen, and significantly better than quite a few of them.

This is my current shelfer and just happens to be Marc's @mtracy64 old can. I got it from him in 2008.

Tom @Candog and I dumped a few of these over the years but like most of the dumpers out there were pretty rough. I'm pretty sure we found one pretty decent one with the Silver Stock J's we dumped. I think that one went to Tom's shelf but I don't have a picture. Maybe Tom can post one.

My goodness … what, did someone decide in 1941 which couple of PA cans would be the toughest to find 70 years later and then sewed them up inside a wall? What a find!!

I actually purchased mine as the dumper I had was pretty marginal. No picture rights now.

What happened to that Silver Dime that was found? Was it a really good one?

It went to Santa Barbara, where it was quickly upgraded (twice . . .), then I lost track of it. Here's a photo of it. The plaster couldn't be removed. I have the USBC can and I've seen two others that are roughly comparable, but I've never heard of one better than those three.

I really wish the Silver Dime was better. I have a very long history with the gentleman who acquired this find, and there's a very good chance I would have had first shot at it. Here are four I've had first shot at from him over the years. My J-Spout collection would have some gaping holes without him . . .
