Nice. I believe there was once a privy on my property. My interest in finding it has peaked.

Not all the bottles are beer, I am sure there are bottling companys that would bottle soda water, ginger ale and other odd sodas from the time. Super cool dig!! Condition is awsome! Everything I find is always broke.

Did find lots of broken stuff in here. At one bottom corner was all broken glass & plates, pottery ect. Probably 80%+ of bottles came out unbroken which is a high rate. The Broken shards were not in the big group pic. Interesting because you never know what you may find? LEON.

Sanbourn Fire Insurance Maps. Most major cities can be found, along with a lot of smaller towns. They were maps designed for insurance companies so like Leon said they have little squares showing every building on the property including privvies. Even if they don't show the privvy, they are goog for telling what homes were it what era, then it is just getting permission for the right homes and walking around just inside the back yards property line with a probe.

have you tried sifting a privy....Ive seen some pretty cool small finds pop up that way - me and a friend took a sifter over to a big 1860s-80s dump that has been turned over (good bottles..but 15 feet down ....) - sifting for a total of maybe half an hour yielded a small silver ring- indian head penny - some broken medallion - and tons of little garter buckles and the like......
