Slowly Losing It...
All this stay at home stuff, one has time to think about things. I actually contemplated the idea of collecting nothing but Michigan cans from the New Cans Database. Being like I am, I decided to check how many of them are there. To my surprise, there are 943 different Michigan cans residing in the New Cans Database. Needles to say, the idea quickly dissipated.
In the event anyone would consider such an endeavor, I've assembled the following images for your search.
FIRST, THE COUNT
12oz
16oz
24oz
5 LITER
REMAINING CANS

Re: Slowly Losing It...
well, you could go large and go small and it would be do-able:
One 8oz can.....check
32 5L cans....gives you something to look for at a show, but not overwhelming.

Actually, the two categories in my previous post are the only types of current cans I do save.

Re: Slowly Losing It...
Ed,
The same thing is true of my little tiny state of Connecticut. Last time I checked there were close to 800 different cans, and probably more than that now. Even though I live almost in one corner of the state and I can drive to anywhere else in less than two hours, I can't even keep up with the cans from Connecticut!

@Uncle Jackson
Jerry,
You do know that you're talking to people that collect Beer Cans and other Breweriana! I had to check it out. I thought you were talking about a venereal disease!
For the record, I don't collect Craft cans. Like I said, the idea crossed my mind but when I finished the counting, the idea was no longer even a consideration. If a specific niche was chosen like Holiday cans, or type of brew, or cans with ladies on them, it'd be tough because the majority are regional and that makes it even tougher. I commend those who are into Craft cans and wish them every success.

Re: Slowly Losing It...
When I go to the package store and look at the shelves my eyes glaze over. Then I reach for a 12 pack of a beer I like and is in the affordable range. Never thought we would get to this point.

Re: Slowly Losing It...
An inexpensive (but cool) niche collection can be fun. With display space filling up fast, and with the values of cans I want skyrocketing, I’ve been going for all the 70’s steel Schlitz Malt Liquor blue bull cans. USBC lists about 50, and I’ve got a few unlisted ones, plus some bank tops and drinking cups. An attainable number. With crafts there would be endless options.

Re: Slowly Losing It...
@MI-Cans Collecting all of the craft cans from most any state is an unwieldy proposition. I can't keep up with the maybe six or seven breweries here that can beer- between expensive brewery-only releases, special cans for events that you'll never see, and just the rapid release of new seasonals, it's overwhelming.
My suggestion, if there is any interest in playing around with craft cans (and they can be a LOT of fun- between interesting designs and punny names for the beers) would be to concentrate on one or two breweries from your city, or just one or two whose beers you really like or whose cans just catch your interest for one reason or another. One or two brewers, unless you choose the super-prolific "new beer of the week" breweries, could be a controllable group, and a buildable collection. Another good idea I see people do is to collect only "drank it myself" cans. Easy to control, and you have a personal connection with the cans.

Re: Slowly Losing It...
I just pick up any craft cans that happen to catch my eye. Actually, I'm pretty much that way with any cans I collect. As long as it's something I don't have and the price is right, I'll pick it up eventually. It's all about the journey!

Re: Slowly Losing It...
If anyone collects TX cans, there's only 1,094 currently listed.

Re: Slowly Losing It...
I'm not going to spend several hours counting up the number of 12 oz, 16 oz, 19.2 oz and 24 oz Texas cans that I have. It's not an important piece of information for me to know.

Re: Slowly Losing It...
@kamsquared
Kurt, appreciate you mentioning it.
I was aware of them being missing as, like you, I have all 7 of the original copper versions. What I posted was just what was in the New Cans Database as of last November. A current list of Michigan Craft Cans shows no less than 17 Keweenaw cans out of South Range.

@golf_lover44
Glad to know it.
I try to post things that may be useful to anyone on this site.
If someone can find something they can use, I'm glad.
If someone has no use for something, I'm glad I at least tried.

I wasn't implying that your posting the number of cans from Texas wasn't important. I meant that I wasn't going to spend hours looking at every can in my collection to count up the number of ones from Texas. I don't specialize in Texas cans so, to me, it isn't an important piece of information to know. I have cans from just about every state there is because many have nice graphics. That, to me, is more important as to why I have a can in my collection.
