Great find! I don't know as though I've seen a dumper in person. Didn't Regan dig some several years back? How tough is it?

Thanks, Ed. I didn't know the find of nice ones was that large, and I also didn't know they were salesman's sample cans. Dan got almost $11,000 for one and almost $10,000 for another at auction. He also had a rolled can with a painted spout and a somewhat offgrade (but still pretty good) can, and I thought both of those wildly underperformed. Given the rarity, even compared to other cans from the area, I've assumed a short run, a small area of distribution, or both. It's great to hear of the find, and I look forward to hearing more.

Steve Armstrong has several letters from the 30s talking about the cones and some could be sent to distributors as samples.

Marc, by the I ran across an old RUSTlings where you had invoices for Gretz Bocks in J Spouts, any chance that photo I posted of I-cant-make-out-the-brand (unknown) J's, are Gretz Bocks? Just a thought!

I must have looked at that photo a hundred times, and I keep coming back to the Koller's Topaz. The Gretz label is about the same shape, but it's larger and it's centered up/down. The size, shape and location of the label matches the Topaz perfectly, as does the light background color and even the color of the crown. The label itself is utterly indecipherable and somehow manages to look metallic, and I don't understand how that could happen. I suppose an unknown variation or an unknown brand by Koller's is a possibility. In looking at the photo again now, it looks like the spouts are shorter in height than regular J-Spouts. Is it just me seeing this?

There were no other ads that featured cans again until July 1950. There was always mention of bottles but never cans until then.

Cone tops continued to be featured in ads. The first flat top since in an ad was July 1956

Sorry to offend .. I was just kidding around. Nobody knows how to have fun anymore. It is easier to be offended these days than laugh it off. That's why I hardly post anymore... Most of the time no one responds and when they do, they're mad. :(

Getting back to the find .... So how many of the Butte Special's were dug? There's only a handful around. I can't believe how well the red color held up.

Only 3 were found. 2 are nicer than Regan's find and one is pretty rough.
