Quick update before I go back south. I got 4 grocery bags full of cans. Very productive day with several new shelf cans

Re: Today’s dig 8-29
Here’s some more pics. I must mention I pulled this off in 1 day and also did it all alone. And it was a blast.
I told myself last week that I’d love to dig a Bosch flat.
For those wondering, my first can I dumped in the UP was a Pabst root beer!
Only 2 of the spots I had picked had cans. And they had 100’s. I couldn’t believe how many cans were thrown down the embankment at these little camps. Found virtually everything major brands. I’ve never found so many bantams and Pabst sodas before. Also I really enjoyed finding hamms cans all day. Sounds weird but I don’t see them down here that often.
A roadside park had literally 1000’s of scattered cans behind it, down a massive ravine. Very messy spot. Even has a car thrown down it.
Also, the last spot I was at, I found 3 Bosch flats! So I’m very happy!
Oh, and also this trip marks the 3rd time I’ve dug into an underground bees nest

Can’t forget these. The soil is so weird up there. Reminds me of the stuff Daniel in Alaska digs through.

Re: Today’s dig 8-29
Nice Cheif Oshkosh, hopefully you can get a little more of the rust off.
How did you handle the bees?
Other than the bees nest that it sounds like a well planned well timed successful trip.

Re: Today’s dig 8-29
Curious about the bees myself. I've seen underground bee nests before, and the ones I've seen, there is no missing them- there are a bunch of bees flying around the entrance, and they will make their presence known if you wander too close.
Looks like you had this trip well scouted. So how long of a drive is the UP from where you're at?
Thanks for the pics, especially the Big Mac. I've always been interested in bridges, and hope to drive it myself one day.

Re: Today’s dig 8-29
Bees was no big issue, honestly I laughed after it happened. So here’s the story.
I was on my knees starting to pull a can out when I felt the sting up my left sleeve on my shoulder. Took me about 3 seconds to realize what had happened and I started running, flinging my 3 prong tool in the process. I wasn’t chased at all. But my next issue was getting my metal detector out from the now massive swarm of bees. So I had to cut up a jack pine branch and make a pole to fish it out.
Just gotta use your head. And it took me a few minutes to find my digging tool. If you look in some of my pictures I painted the handle red so I don’t lose it in the leaves.
The nest itself was about 5 inches away from the can, at the base of an old tree (always detect around old trees). Not many bees coming out before I disturbed them so it was hard to see. Usually I’m on the lookout.

Re: Today’s dig 8-29
Cool Chief Oshkosh! Digging is so Strange.... I find Stroh's, Johnny Pfiffer, and Bocsh up here in Minnesota and you find Hamm's down in the U.P.

Re: Today’s dig 8-29
Hamm’s is normal in the UP. I found them at every spot. And I’m glad, because it’s a can I rarely find down here. So I was happy.
I’ve only found hamms down here 3 times in the last 10years
