One good can
Had an unbearable slow day Saturday with only 1 spot producing cans, which was the last spot. I hit this area before but couldn’t get all the way to the camp spot because of it being occupied. One of the few cans I found turned out to be an all star! Unfortunately it’s not looking as good as it did earlier in the acid?? Anyway, it’s another rarecan I found this year.
Looking like spring dumping is done for me. The woods are absolutely packed now and I’m pretty much out of dumping funds. But I do have a few local trips I can probably do around here..

Re: One good can
Yeah condition deteriorated quickly on the all star
I soaked it with WD-40 hopefully that makes a difference.
What else should I do?

Re: One good can
What part of the state were you in? A buddy and I dug about 30 All Stars in good shape near Lake St. Helen in the early 1990's, and Dan Bora found a good number of good Old Gold OI's elsewhere in Roscommon County around that time. An old railroad line ran Northeast from Northern Indiana into Michigan before leveling off more or less due East, and I figured that was how the cans got there.

Re: One good can
I would guess the soil conditions weakened the adhesion of the paint. WD-40 is never a bad idea - if nothing else, it will force the water out and then excess WD-40 will evaporate. I don't know as though there is anything else to do except hope.

Yeah. Idk what else to do. I’m hoping it’s nothing I caused.
Either way, it’s going to the wall.

Re: One good can
You have enough experience with oxalic that you'd have problems all the time if you were doing something wrong. You can't really make it too strong, so the only wrong things you can do are make it too hot or leave your cans in too long. You'd ruin just about everything you find if you were doing either of those things.
Yeah, I figured you probably went East, and it's a good area - lots of accessible land, older dumps and often decent preservation.

Re: One good can
Ted,
Congratulations on digging the All Star, One of my most wanted holy grail cans to dig.
That's awesome!! I know condition not the best, but you got one. great dig!
on the restoration. I've never had good results with WD 40 on cans.
I use an acrylic floor wax , nearly all my cans get a coat of it before they go on the shelf.
seals them up and gives them a shine. and can really bring the color out on faded cans.

I should probably give that a try on this one. And I will certainly use that on other cans in the future.
I’ve had really good luck with wd-40 in the past.
I use it primarily for cans that have labels that are just barely faded under the rust, to give it the “wet” look

Re: One good can
Just "One Good Can" has always been my motto for short day trips. If I can find One Good Can while I'm out for 3 or 4 hours, then I just made my day!
