Multiple finds, apparently. One in hand, another apparently in the works in a different state. And a rumor (at least to me) of one or two more cleaner cans somewhere else. Pretty crazy that more than one would surface, although those Rumor cans may have been known to select people for much longer. Having two unknown Hillman's pop up within a few months is more far-fetched, though. no sixth grade keep-away shenanigans, seller of can #2 wanted some privacy to negotiate before the frenzy of interest started, can #3 still trying to be bought from non-collector, and I have no info on the Rumor can(s). ART world? Maybe if you airbrushed a Krueger's Special overtop the Class, then covered it with the Doo Doo from an albino elephant during a lunar eclipse at ground zero, then it might be performance art.

I'm surprised this was so well known and kept so quiet also. Guess the discussion board isn't really as public as I thought. But I guess I'd be a little cautious, too. Sort of like holding a winning lottery ticket--- you don't run around showng everyone.
Any chance these will be available, or are they all spoken for?

Class
I think it was being kept a secret so that Matt's upcoming article would have a tremendous HOLY @#$% factor. Also, while the deal was being finalized it wouldn't be good if 20 other collectors jumped in tried to make their own deals on the side.
Bottom line (as seen in Mike's photo) - the can does indeed exist. The find has to make the R10 Gilbert/Larsen example worth much less. How much less, who knows, but certainly it isn't a unique can anymore.

If this story is true, and it sure sounds like it must be, I'll make the following comments:
1) Let's hear it for dumping out east !! Guess its not hopeless after all.
2) This makes the existing can a real can. There have been conclusions on this board that the one known can was never filled and the can was never filled. Now we know it was.
3) That makes the one Ted has a real can and one I'd be more interested in. Up until now, it was like the Budweiser crown or Tiger OI--- only a test can in my eyes. It had value, but not as much as a "Real" can.
4) Now I think Ted has a more valuable can. I don't doubt a bit that he'll see his value rise to $250k. Why? 10 years ago he told me that he was surprised that there was a cap on can values in the $1000 range or so. He pointed to other collectibles and predicted that in 5-10 years we'd see cans going for $20-30k. I thought he was out of his mind. I listen alot more carefully now when he makes predictions.

i have to dis agree with cansnatcher about ted's class can going to 250k. although i preface my thoughts by saying i repect the fact you know more about on grade cans than myself. i also collect rare coin ops, fans, and comics. if the other cans were cond 2 or dumpers, you might have a point. however, another on grade will reduce the value somewhat. i can assure you no one from the "art" community will buy his can because it was(is) one of a kind. i dont think it translates. its not at the honus wagner card level. i know the person who has the rarest pinball machine. he could never get the $$ for it that he could for a rockola world series baseball game.

class can
ted and i spoke when he had the "big 4" class kent clipper apache. he was being bombarded w/ phone calls and emails... he and i had the same art world conversation, but it was escoteric in nature...i dont believe he ever expected a 250k price! he is more interested in having it to advertise his business. after all, he bought a portfolio of cans, the class can being the marquee. it was my understanding from ted that going into last year's canvention the base price he considered was 50k... taking it from there

Just from being in Ted's room and hearing some of the conversation I had thought he figured in the 40-50K rnage as a starting point. I doubt that any of this will hurt Ted's can at all- at least not in the age of No Bad PR.....
The $250,000 mark in 5-10 years? I think it's entirely possible but we should not forget how volatile collectibles markets really are.... How many cans would have brought $1,000 in 1987? Right around there sure was a low point in Beer Cans...
I follow high end ephemera as well as I can and the jumps in prices realized say in the last 5 years is rather astounding.... Beer cans have NOT kept up in comparision to many other collecitng area's..... I got Lyn Knight's currency auction catalogs today... Several items that they sold in 1995 to 1998 are expected to jump from 15-20 to 150,000 to 200,000... And I don't doubt it willl happen..If say Heritage's sales are any indication of the money markets....
About three weeks ago Morphys (Morphey's?) in Denver sold a high end Hire's Root Beer collection- lot's of syrup stands, signs, etc... and the pick of them all- a stinkin' 9 inch circular cardboard fan pull (basically the same as a diecut trade card) went for $45,000! It was awesome but come on.... Other similar diecut cards went 9k and 4500..... These were Ebay Live too so you can find them if you wish...
Non- Art photographs regularly go in the 100k's and I think 1 million has been cracked a few times in the last two years. The topper that I know of is the cast iron or aluminum Rooster that sold for 5.9 million- its from about 1905 and was a regularly manufactured item- others could turn up at any time (sound familar?)...
Certainly in the last 10 years we have seen can prices solidify and go way up for some stuff. The common things haven't moved since 1978. Get out your BCU 1st edition (I have #2) Stallion XII is 25-35 and the Store sign 7-11 is 35-40.... Oldbrau is 55-65 (was that actually rare at one time?). Overall can prices continue to go up for the really good stuff but even those in a Class all their own are NOT keeping up with other collectibles.
The Art world generates the highest prices for portable stuff. Most of the 100,000,000+ sales before 2003 were all frauds. Usually it bankrupted companies and was just another shot in the heart for their companies (there was a Sotheby's book that covered a lot of these a couple years ago). I doubt art folks will be buying the rarest beer cans just to get rarities but God help us if they find another reason to collect breweriana... Like say... they are pretty and it's from my home town..hey....

Nice, I like the Old Dutch & Hohenadel, Nice cans. Let me guess these have been in a non collectors closet since the 70's. Or maybe a Old Time collector from the 70's. And he never thought they were worth much being off grade Dumpers. Would have been happy to get $10.00 each but someone decided to offer $10,000 instead. Is my Scenario close? LEON.

I got a tip from a non beer can collector a year ago that his buddy had 2 mint Tiger O/I Beer cans. This got laughed off as nonsense, rumor, a joke, a cruel prank on me, & was implied I'm a Idiot for even taking it seriously but maybe I ought re-investigate this tip, You never know if all these different Class can finds are surfacing & look at how easy it was for Dan B. to land that indoor Rosalie because nobody else even tried. Hmmm? LEON.
