Morean Auction
Anyone know what happened to Dan's Auction? The banner says " Sept 18 2022 TIMED" I can't get on.

Re: Morean Auction
It's over in about 15 minutes. This was an odd one - it never came up as "live auction" as all his previous auctions did. You have to open each individual item to bid, and there's no way to jump in and find out where it's at. One item finishes every 30 seconds, and only the last 30 or so are still open.

Re: Morean Auction
Some good deals, some of my cans got less then 20% of what they usually get & less then a 3rd of Book price.

Re: Morean Auction
I was underbidder on a couple cans, including the Hull's Lager. The giant hole in the back kept me from going higher on it. I still love rare dumpers, but a lack of structural integrity lowers my opinion of the value drastically. The better stuff seems to have done pretty well, but many of the cheaper cans likely would have done better on eBay . . . that's not what Dan's known for so it's a good place to get good deals.

Re: Morean Auction
Wasn't this auction supposed to close each lot at a rolling 30 seconds per lot pace? Even had an exact end time like 3:26 or something.
Nothing I had to have but a few items I would have liked at the right price. I logged in a few hours before it was supposed to be over, and it appeared to already be over. Everything was stopped. Clicking the "view auction" tab sent me to the beginning with no apparent way to get to a live format.
Bummer as I would have bid more on a few items as compared to what they sold for.

Flats, cones & early tabs. Ohio cans, ultra clean cans & shine. East coast cans. Rare rust. And, whatever else catches my eye.

Re: Morean Auction
The lots never came up for bidding in the usual "live auction" format. The lots did go off every 30 seconds, but it was difficult to follow unless you watched the whole thing. If you had opened lot #1 before it ended, there was a 30-second countdown and you could arrow to the next item when it ended, and so on. I found it easier to bid on the items I wanted before they came up for their 30 seconds - they also had countdown clocks. Early in the auction, you could open a high lot number item and see how many hours, minutes and seconds were left and you could bid at any time before the clock ran down. I was really only hot for one can, and I lost out on it.OhioCanGuy wrote: ↑Mon Sep 19, 2022 9:18 pm Wasn't this auction supposed to close each lot at a rolling 30 seconds per lot pace? Re: Morean Auction
It took me about an hour to figure out how it was working. Luckily the one can I wanted was a in one of the 200s of lot numbers so I had time and still was able to snag it ... I thought at first it was due to my being in the Mountain time zone. I have wondered, it might be best to collect brands that begin with "A" as most of the auctions list alphabetically and sometime folks are late to get on... also maybe collect brands that begin with X,Y, or Z as by the time they come up, I have too many other things to do with on a Saturday or Sunday?
Expired once again in Portland ...

Re: Morean Auction
I talked to Dan yesterday and he said they were going back to the original format. He tried this as an experiment but there was a lot of confusion.

Re: Morean Auction
The format sounds just like how Ebay does their auctions. I can see how it would be confusing if you are expecting his prior auction formats.
WI, MI, MN 12 oz. flats and cones,
crowntainers, 12 oz. tabs,
"Vegas" themed cans, cans with a skiing/snow boarding theme, and
12 oz. Michigan tax stamp cans

Re: Morean Auction
That Matterhorn went for way more than I was willing to pay. Interesting to see what really takes off in those auctions

Re: Morean Auction
So curious to hear more on the relidded Matterhorn.....
Simply looks like one of those cheap raised ridge tops thrown on the top.....I have plenty of those lids in a drawer and could have Art throw one on mine.....

Art has scruples and will not create something that did not exist.

The flat top lid on my Matterhorn flat top has the same lid.mtracy64 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 21, 2022 5:31 pmArt has scruples and will not create something that did not exist.
Just was curious why it went so high.

Re: Morean Auction
I guess I've ceased wondering why relatively common cans go high in these auctions because it happens so often. He's got a few bidders who are long on cash and short on knowledge. You'd think people would check sold item prices on dealer websites, or look for websites like this one to learn from.
