Dixie Beer Test or Misprint can?
Picked up the below Dixie can in a collection the other day and found the below Dixie can which at first I thought was a misprint missing it’s white background. The closer I look the more I think it might be a test can? Reason: the lettering is metallic versus the same can variation’s lettering with the normal white background; also, because it is missing it’s bottom lid/ never had one. Figure that @Dixie Dave, @Dixiedarlin1230 or @Longhorn Mike would know? Thanks!

Re: Dixie Beer Test or Misprint can?
My money is on a misprint. I have 5-10 cans like this where one color never got printed.

I’m with UJack. Same green ink, different background. Phase one of the coating process was skipped. Ziphippie

So the green letter coloring on the can on left would look metallic if not oriented on top of a white base?Uncle Jackson wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 6:56 am My money is on a misprint. I have 5-10 cans like this where one color never got printed.

I also say the white was simply left off. The green and other colors might look metallic with the bare metal background rather than the white underneath it.

Re: Dixie Beer Test or Misprint can?
Sorry I'm a little late to the party on this one. I have numerous Dixie misprints from the 70's, some of which are pictured here. I'm not sure about all of the misprints out there, but most of mine I got directly from a brewery employee that used to sell them at the Mardi Gras Chapter shows at the Dixie Brewery, then later on eBay after the Katrina disaster. The cans were missing colors, upside down, off register, weird color variations and double and triple strikes.
I have one that looks just like yours. The white base paint gives the green a "flat" look, but when the green is applied directly to the steel body, the green has a metallic finish.

Just seeing this. My money is on misprint. Cans missing the white occasionally got out of the brewery. I think I have one somewhere.
