Breweriana.com Auction Toady
Hmmmm. Unless I missed it, not a single word about this auction since their last one. We usually have much anticipation and commentary.
I shall leave no cone unturned!!

Re: Breweriana.com Auction Toady
Jim-I think folks just get numb to the WOW of the prices. The only can I’m interested in is already $500.00 above what I feel is top dollar. It has a few spots to boot.
I watched Erik’s entire auction yesterday, finally got to the can I was interested in, I bid double of what I thought it would go for and of course I lost. Guess that is the way it goes now.
People say “ get out and go to shows”. I went to 3 very large shows last year and just came home with a hotel receipt. Love to go to shows, but I had to seriously lower my expectation of finding a can for my collection.
Different times we live in now…..

Re: Breweriana.com Auction Toady
I don't know what you guys are talking about, a pink Blatz can now be had for about $4K, a little more than %25 of what it would have cost you a year ago. :)
Just looking through what has sold already the Cold Spring high pro going for $2800 pre fees seems a little excessive.

Re: Breweriana.com Auction Toady
The Arrow English Style Ale was a bargain at $1,300. I would have bid that one up, but I had it in my head that the auction started at 11:00 AM instead of 10:00 AM. The Frankenmuth cone at $3,700 seems excessive, even for the bulb top.
I bought several cans at Blue/Grey last year at prices ranging from decent to really good, and added another at an Ohio show in the summer. However, I was lucky to get one can at Canvention. Fingers crossed for Cabin Fever and Spring Thaw . . .

Following the auction now, things still look strong, which I have stated numerous times, I think it's great fun

Re: Breweriana.com Auction Toady
$24,000 hammer price. The only known indoor example of the Kuebler Bock J-Spout is rolled too, and it went just north of $31,000 at auction . . . before auction results went nutty. A (poorly) rolled New Yorker cracked $20,000 recently also, though it's worth noting it was Withdrawn Free and I'm not sure an all-original example is known.
In general, though, buyers aren't paying nearly enough attention to things like rolled cans and re-lidded cans.

And a Kings Beer OI, which has been found in quantity, just hammered for 7500.
Which will make it a 9,000 can give or take....

One thing I do like about the auction today is how he's keeping it moving along.

Isn't this a can known to trade in the 4 to 4,500 range? I'm not a cone expert...

Re: Breweriana.com Auction Toady
Yes the blue iroquis is much tougher in the high pro I think, attractive can but that is nuts.
Interesting that with the Pabst OI's going up and up the OI bocks seem to hold in the $1500-$2000 range, I know they are not that tough and most are 1- cans but considering some of the other price escalations and it is an OI AND a bock you would have expected those to shoot up like the OTA's have.

Re: Breweriana.com Auction Toady
I thought the Schmidt’s Natural Brew went relatively inexpensive at $750.00
Great condition and nice providence to Stark collection.
Much tougher than the No Sugar No Glucose.
- Phoenix cone - $21,500 with Buyer premium and shipping over $25K.
Glad I bought mine from Beercansplus for $2,400 7 years ago

Re: Breweriana.com Auction Toady
I remember being floored here when a Rosalie (the one with the body work) went for $2000. But this is unbelievable, a dumper is a dumper I don't care how rare I thought there was some sort of limit to this insanity. Still wondering why we are not hitting six figures on the shiny holy grails, it seems logical considering the prices on these common cans...

I finally bought one from Ricky Schmidt for $900 as he brought one to the Frankenmuth every year for about 10 years. That was about 1990.Clarkston1 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 13, 2022 2:58 pm

I declined an offer north of $20K for the Philipsburg Old German J-Spout a while back. I considered it way too much at the time, but maybe it wasn't enough? I declined because I felt like there would be no point in continuing with the J-Spouts if I let it go.

If the mission is to turn $33,000.00 into $3,000.00, then this is a resounding success.
