Maybe it's because I'm old but change isn't always necessary or good. I really have to stare to see the eagle.

Re: The once and future eagle
From the article, it appears A-B is embarrassed to be considered American.

As a 30-year advertising creative director, I am embarrassed for them.

Re: The once and future eagle
I must have read a different article. They mentioned moving away from 'nationalism', which is a far different thing than being 'embarrassed to be considered American".cantankerous wrote: ↑Fri Jan 21, 2022 3:41 pm From the article, it appears A-B is embarrassed to be considered American.
Hmmm …
Weird how it would be controversial, in any event, for a Belgium company to want to move away from Americanism.

Henry, yep. Not to mention the Belgian company brews Budweiser in China for the communist Chinese...

Re: The once and future eagle
It is easier to change the logo than to change the management. Just because a dead cat bounces when it hits the ground, it does not mean it is alive.

Re: The once and future eagle
I think the inversion of the eagle's colors (dark body/white neck become gold body/redneck(!)) scrambles the way we usually see the eagle, and that's part of the issue.
I am anti-AB for plenty of reasons that don't need recitation here, but I will say that old St. Louis-owned AB had a tradition of great, smart design -- I mean, Budweiser, Busch, Michelob, all great designs with a great deal of consistency and recognition. I don't expect inBev to get that or to continue it or to have the same design impulses or understanding. I expect them to pivot in the breeze for the bottom line.
Good for Yuengling and long may they run.

Re: The once and future eagle
Not pro or anti AB, but I will say I do like the font/script in the new design better than the old font. Not so much the eagle and A though.

Re: The once and future eagle
I also wonder if they realize that, in about a generation, no one will be able to read their cursive name?
I heard a good rant from the Can Doctah a couple months ago, about neon losing ground to LED signs and advertising quality spiraling down in general. One sidelight was how recognizable the old Bud bowtie was from a mile away. If you wanted a beer, you didn't have to squint to find one down the street. These days... well, you'll need to be able to pinch and expand to see what it is their marketing gurus have come up with.

Better to drive 950 miles and kick asz than go a thousand miles and get nothing.
