Re: Ebling's cone top Question ?????
Great question, difficult to answer with any certainty. I have no idea what the availability of the unused labels is, and I don't know how accurately the original adhesion methodology can be replicated (or how much the market cares about that). The can itself was used for other products in addition to beer; I have a Utility Oil and a Metal & Chrome Polish, both with paper labels, and I've also seen a third product in the same can. They apparently aren't common, but one eBay seller had several when I bought mine years ago. The value of the original cans is open to debate as well. I was offered the pair, both in better shape than yesterday's auction can, for $5,500 in May and passed because I thought it was $1,000 too much.

Re: Ebling's cone top Question ?????
I was an underbidder on the beer label sold by an RB'er on ebay a year or so back, went for about 375-400. So there's that. I'd LOVE to get either one- I have one of the 'other' crown tall cones Marc mentions and would be thrilled to wrap a real label on it and have my own personal mash-up can.
Better to drive 950 miles and kick asz than go a thousand miles and get nothing.

Re: Ebling's cone top Question ?????
I remember having an original Beer version that came out of a ceiling in a house on Long Island. Not sure why but not many collectors seemed excited about it. I believe it went to Dave Stark at a Canvention - Pittsburgh most likely.
I think I only got around $850 for it.

Re: Ebling's cone top Question ?????
When Gene was first selling his cans 5 to 6 years ago I could have purchased this example for $3K from Beercansplus.
I ended up buying an Exeter, in hindsight should have purchased both!!
Who knew.

I think it was Dearborn, though I guess Lexington is a possibility too. I wasn't at Pittsburgh, but I bumped into Dale Rogalski and Dave shortly after Dave bought it.beercanman wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 1:55 pm I remember having an original Beer version that came out of a ceiling in a house on Long Island. There aren't many paper label cans in the hobby and, until Sunday, the Michelob was the only one I'd seen sell at price remotely commensurate with scarcity.

Dearborn - I believe you’re right, Marc. Dale actually told Dave I had it for sale and that was that. Neat can, but certainly an oddball.mtracy64 wrote:I think it was Dearborn, though I guess Lexington is a possibility too. Yes, Dale was pleased that he found a can for Dave.beercanman wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 7:17 pmDearborn - I believe you’re right, Marc. Dale actually told Dave I had it for sale and that was that. Crown Can Co. certainly livened things up in the pre-war era with the odd sizes and shapes they tried, and their graphic design department did a bang-up job too. I chase all of their pre-war cans except Crowntainers (there are too many), and they are a tough bunch to put together.
