Moving the Hoard Need Suggestions.

#1

Post by willssoda »

Ok after 21 years of collecting, and struggling to move in my office for the past year I’m officially splitting at the seams. Sooooo, I’m moving from my 12’x10’office to an L shaped room 13’x20’ and 11’x6.5’. Currently I use display cases and now will be incorporating shelves in-between the cases. Tentatively I’m thinking about 4 three (3) foot wide by five (5) foot tall shelves. anyone have any suggestions regarding the shelves, how to build, hang, type of wood etc? Looking forward to some great responses. Thanks!

Here’s some of what I’m gonna have to move😳 and yes there’s a desk and chair in that pic🤣

My suggestion is when you build shelves, make them adjustable to accommodate new items that come along. We did preassembled units that hang on the wall. They can be moved or adjusted as desired.

Yes agreed. I’ve decided to build 3 identical shelves and one smaller one for now. Gonna build outside and paint white. I bought popular which wasn’t cheap, is it crazy to paint them?

[attachment=2]860D1CE3-FC0F-4640-8509-B0B32DF1454F.jpeg[/attachmentUpdate. Completed shelves today not on the wall yet, but looks like we nailed the dimensions. Fits 11 cans with out Keepers and 10 with. Each section of shelves has one row larger to display cone tops in keepers. Now trying to decide where to hang and if I should paint white or not?

Ok. First shelf up. I used “L” brackets is that the best way? Anyone have any suggestions? I’m so worried they will fall off the wall and crush cans🥴

If the 'L' brackets are attached to framing, then you should be OK. If the cans are empty, then your shelving weighs more than the cans.

The light switch being covered by the shelves will be a problem though.

Yes each of the four brackets is screwed into the frame and the wall. I knew the light switch was an issue but wanted to use that space so decided to put the shelf in position so I can still use the switch. I just lose a can space. 🥲

I like the unpainted shelves. As long as the brackets are screwed into the wall studs, you should be good.

Are you plan having a smaller desk in that room ?? If you want to blend with your soda cans collection. Why don't you make a re-purposed desk that blend with it??? Other note. I notice you post a picture of your shelves on the wall , The with a light switch. You may lose more space if you put another shelves on other wall. with same design. There is someway make it look better for L shape shelves . But it more custom design and more work. My best bet is look through site call Pinetrest. and type up Man Caves., then it will give you some idea design. for L shaped shelves ?? It just that you have to sign up for it and it free, I think.

This may help define hoard. Lol. Here are cans I took out of a display. Some cans I had forgotten I had. Now after taking all these cans and putting in a tote look at how many still remain in the display case!

Nice Miami Iced Coffee can!

I used to have that one, and several more of that set. I think I had 6 or so different designs.

Sold them last year or so when downsizing.

Lots of work!

Had to stop moving items cause I was running out of space to put them. Need to start re-building the displays. Here is my start, on hold now till the electrician gets here to install 4 more can lights.
