Bluebonnet Cones - Morean June auction
Just looking through the Morean Auction and saw the 6 pack of minty bluebonnets. Interesting way he is auctioning them, can either bid on whole 6 pack in the case or individually, whichever total is higher is the way they will be sold. All are pretty minty so you would think they would fall very close to each other in price and everyone will know what to beat because 6 pack auction will go off first.

Re: Bluebonnet Cones - Morean June auction
It's an interesting auction methodology to be sure. I don't know how many deep-pocketed six-pack collectors are out there, but I'd be very surprised if a more valuable six-pack exists. It should be a lot of fun to watch these lots go off, as I'm not sure the can existed in such high grade before this find. I see Dan added this note to the listing:
NOTE: these are the best six of a find of 18 of these. We have been informed the other 12 have visible rust, dents/dings, dulled/darkened gold and/or missing crowns. This is the only six pack.
There's a nice mix of other goodies too, mostly a bit shy of pristine - where I can still compete occasionally - so I hope to come away with a couple.

I believe these came from Steve Fernandez find of Texas brewery items. He bought a bunch of cool older TX breweriana from the family of a former brewery employee in the past year.

Re: Bluebonnet Cones - Morean June auction
Would certainly be nice to keep the six pack together, for historical purposes if nothing else. Then again, will take some serious coin to pull that off.
In other random observations, I kind of like this months auction being listed in reverse alphabetical order.

I noticed that as well. Wonder if cans nearer to the end of the alphabet were brining in less money in previous auctions...

Re: Bluebonnet Cones - Morean June auction
I would guess that they at times did bring in less when they were at the end of the auction. Likely due to fewer bidders remaining online, less competition.kruegerbock wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 3:21 pm I noticed that as well. Re: Bluebonnet Cones - Morean June auction
If later items in the auction bring less, the only fix for that is to list fewer items. My own observation has been that my best deals have been on items relatively early in the auctions, but the sample size of one bidder and a handful of items is too small to be relevant. Unless you're one of the few who can afford to bid $11,000 on $1,500 cans, the potential to get "spent out" early is always there, but so too is the potential to become frustrated at losing out over and over and to respond later in the auction by bidding higher than originally intended in hopes of finally winning something. I assume a fair number of bidders on cans stick around for the breweriana portion of Dan's auctions also, and the breweriana is usually last. I think the backwards alphabetization is either a whim or was done purely because of the Bluebonnet cones and the time difference between EDT and the target audience.

Huh, didn't see this coming. I've spent three weeks trying to decide whether the Old Milwaukee is good enough to sit next to the 'long mandatory' version I got from Gene a couple years ago, but that no longer matters.

Re: Bluebonnet Cones - Morean June auction
So I am naive, tell me about that pink Blatz, please. Why on earth is it worth $11,000. It isn't even in that great of shape for a high dollar can. What is going on in beer can collecting? I see a Kamm's crowntainer, I would grade 1-, and value at $350, on a good day, at $3000. Somebody hit with me a club, I have to be dreaming.

Re: Bluebonnet Cones - Morean June auction
I'm dumbstruck by these bids. I was thinking to myself, "If the Kamm's stays under 450, I might go for it." But, yes, I agree with your 350 assessment.jacoby4664 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 27, 2021 8:21 am So I am naive, tell me about that pink Blatz, please. Why on earth is it worth $11,000. Re: Bluebonnet Cones - Morean June auction
The offgrade Old Milwaukee is just a couple bids and the buyer's premium shy of exceeding the cost of this entire group from Gene about two years ago . . .

And the off-grade pink Blatz is holding at a level that should purchase multiple complete sets of on-grade Blatz color series cans.

It hasn't even started and I think I am going to get skunked, I see a few cans I would take at their current price but I don't expect it to hold. The pink Blatz is ridiculous, it's not like these never turn up.

Me too. I've already missed bidding on one can. My phone works for a couple minutes then drops out, and my PC does the same - some cans I see on my phone, some I see on my PC, and others I miss altogether.ConeAddict wrote: ↑Sun Jun 27, 2021 10:14 am Well I deleted my last post because I thought it was just me but definitely seems to be auction issues again, I am getting timeout errors.

Will 3,500 be enough to win the 1-minus Kamm's crowntainer? It may not be!

$13500 for the Salute cone, I can't remember if the 4 lined or 6 lined is tougher but that is an insane price either way.

No, but on the plus side it makes our former poster child ($1,100 Fehr's Crowntainer) look like a bargain . . .OctoberAle wrote: ↑Sun Jun 27, 2021 10:44 am Will 3,500 be enough to win the 1-minus Kamm's crowntainer? It may not be!

Re: Bluebonnet Cones - Morean June auction
Buyers premium is 17%, $4329 for a Kamm's crowntainer and it is 1-. The Fehrs was over $1900, as I recall, with buyers premium. Heck, that Fehr's is looking like a deal............NOT!! I am beside myself. Can everyone just forget about crowntainers again and send yours to me!! LOL (PS I guess you get 3% discount if you pay the right way! Such a dea) At this rate may never get another one. Thankfully I already reach my goal of 300.

Re: Bluebonnet Cones - Morean June auction
I remember when he had that can for sale and now that I see it I believe it is that "6 line" variation that is the toughest of the 3 gold Salute's. Those are really cool cans and the one in the auction today was minty but those just aren't worthy of 5 figures. That one you posted has to be close to the best known example and the one today got nearly 4 times the price.OctoberAle wrote: ↑Sun Jun 27, 2021 11:58 amhttp://breweriana.com/beer-cans-cone-to ... -31-19659/ConeAddict wrote: ↑Sun Jun 27, 2021 10:57 am $13500 for the Salute cone, I can't remember if the 4 lined or 6 lined is tougher but that is an insane price either way.

Re: Bluebonnet Cones - Morean June auction
Well the Bluebonnet auctions were pretty interesting, looks like the 6 pack bid won but I noticed that the bidding jumped from like $8k to $12 on a "floor bid" and there were a couple of other jumps not like the incremental type. I know we think floor bids are other auction sites but now I am wondering if it Dan bidding as well as it would make sense that he would want to make sure if someone wanted the 6 pack it would not require a second bidder to get there. It could also be that he didn't set this auction to increments and allowed larger bids to qualify until it got to the amount needed to beat the individual auctions. The winning bid was a floor bid.

Actually, the $5,000+ offgrade and re-lidded yellow Blatz should have been the poster child. We have multiples to select from today, though. The pink Blatz would outside my top 75 from today's group, and the highest online price I can find for the Kamm's Crowntainer is $250.OctoberAle wrote: ↑Sun Jun 27, 2021 1:19 pmYeah, no kidding.mtracy64 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 27, 2021 1:14 pmNo, but on the plus side it makes our former poster child ($1,100 Fehr's Crowntainer) look like a bargain . . .OctoberAle wrote: ↑Sun Jun 27, 2021 10:44 am Will 3,500 be enough to win the 1-minus Kamm's crowntainer? On Positive note: The Southern Select Crowntainer was a very rare 4 line Crowntainer Patent panel variation. A bargain at $700 plus buyers premium. May be 1 of 5, or less, grade 1 something known.

Re: Bluebonnet Cones - Morean June auction
The Eigenbrot's, Genesee Liebotschaner and Gretz Half and Half are good cans that came in at decent prices for buyers, a number of set cans came in much more reasonably than in past auctions, the Old Dutch and Feigenspan OI's came in at nicer prices than comparable or lesser cans from previous auctions and prices on several offgrade cans were quite attractive. It's definitely gotten more difficult to buy at these auctions, but there are opportunities.
I thought the individual Bluebonnet cans might do better, and they likely would have if the six pack went off ahead of them. I suspect bidders underestimated the action on the six pack and would have bid more if they had known what it would take to win.
And, of course, many prices ranged from high to extremely high. I'm continually amazed by the amount of money that collectors can shell out month after month, and by the things some of it is spent on.

It seems to me that cans from the midwest are extremely hot right now. The prices for east coast cans seem to be closer to what one might typically expect to pay.
