Anoka Mistake Can

#1

Post by MI-Cans »

Going through my collection, I found this error on the yellow can. The write up says that the celebration started in 1920, so the black can (1980) would be correct in claiming 60 years. The 1981 can (yellow) also claims 60 years but that can't be correct if the 1920 date is true.

Perhaps it was a year long celebration? Knowing how much they drink and enjoy Halloween in Anoka, I wouldn't be surprised. Do you also have the yellow can in SS? You've pictured the much tougher CS version.

I've been looking for the 1981 can in CS for a long time. Anybody got one they want to get rid of (I already have the SS version)?

@Malt Lager
Only the yellow is CS. The other three are SS.

While this is true, the yellow can is most often found in SS. I've only seen a couple of CS variations of the yellow one.

There's always something to be learned on this site!

Back in the day, I was just happy to get the yellow can to complete the series. Never gave any consideration to the whether it was straight steel or crimped steel.

Good to know that the can may hold a little more value for some folks.

Another example of why it pays to actually list 70's or 80's cans you come up with rather than dismissing most of them as garbage or recycle bin fillers. There are enough oddball variants of cans out there, who knows when or where they will turn up.

My signature shows how I regard recycling in regard to collectible cans.

I checked the BMV and nothing mentions the "mistake" on the yellow can. I wonder if a yellow one exists with 61st year on it or they probably just let it go. Maybe there was no 5th (62nd) can because of the mistake. I would think that the text was provided by the event organizers and either they were at fault or the brewery just glanced over it because of the similarity of content from the previous year.

I guess we'll never know.

How tough is the combination ss/cs version? Picked up a big collection of mostly lidless commemorative cans and found this- Ziphippie

@hover31
I'll be the first to admit that the eyes aren't as good as they used to be.

Am I seeing a bottom crimp and a straight top on that can? I've either never seen that or at least, never noticed that on any can before this.
