007's on eBay

#1

Post by dpaley1500 »

IS anyone else confused/troubled about the current ebay listing of 8 007 cans for $12,000? I have difficulty recognizing whether the cans are real or reproductions. Can someone who is more astute about identifying real 007 cans from repros chime in and educate the rest of us.

They are paper label fakes. Worthless except as a novelty. Certainly not worth $12K.
Always looking for West Virginia breweriana from Fesenmeier and Parkersburg.

Fake as a $3 bill in my opinion.

007 cans have to be the most faked/reproduced cans in the hobby. Again, IMO.

Notice the seller has a total feedback count of 10 and a positive rating of 50%. Sounds like a fine upstanding citizen of the Ebay community.

Anyway, here is an exchange I had with him (her?) earlier today:
.
.

Me: You know these cans are all fakes, right?

Seller: How do you know if they are? I was told to sell them, and they’re real. Idk much about authentic cans

Me: Colors are wrong, lids are wrong. As far as fakes go, these are poorly done. Anyone who knows 007 cans could tell at first glance.

If you really didn’t know, sorry to tell you, but that’s the reality.

Seller: I appreciate it. Yeah, I had no idea. I was just told to sell them, and they’re real. Thanks.

Of course this was hours ago and they're still listed.

The one that would ultra Uber rare is the 8th one with a blonde babe and the red bands top and bottom of the label that says James Bond 007 Bock Blend! That one alone should draw about $4300.

I also messaged the seller and told him those were reproductions. He said that “the authenticity guy” (his words) said they were original. Then he offered me a “deal” on them.

I'm not an expert on anything. Just practice what I learned on this website. Here's what I found looking these cans over. @Rand pointed out the button tab. Looking at the other tabs, none are like the one in the USBC-2 book. See below.

007-02.jpg

I paired each image with the can in the USBC-2 book. Some you can see the can underneath what might be a paper label. On one of them, the same image has different font for the text. The images on the eBay cans don't have the same proportions as the USBC-2 cans. There are only 7 James Bond cans but two unique sets. One set says: A Subtle Blend Of Premium Beer And Malt Liquor. The other set sports a white band at the top of the cans and says: A Malt Liquor Blended With Premium Beer. Notice also that in the eBay posting, seller only shows face without side or back views. You can look at each for comparison.

007-05.jpg
007-07.jpg

Here's one that really doesn't exist. At least I've never heard of it.

007-10.jpg

I left this one for last because my checking of data for this post showed that the USBC-2 has the same image for 2 082 28 0 and 2 082 35 0. I'll leave that information here because the Product Development Team already thinks that I'm persecuting them.

Just trying to show that if you hang around this site long enough, you can't help but learn things and improve your Hobby knowledge.

Thought I'd post an update on these.

Still on Ebay. Asking price has been lowered from $12k to $5k (such a deal)

Seller has at this point, acknowledged in his listing, that he knows they are "not authentic".

But still five grand?!?!?!?

Unfortunately, 007 cans continue to be the most faked cans in the hobby. It's a Shame, but true.

He states:
"Give me a price... idk what the price for these goes."

So he floats $5K, when a current auction of very well done paper labels still isn't selling with a $65 BIN:
