Time to play "Which one would you keep?", WF Red Cap Ale Cone

#1

Post by Conehead »

Everyone loves a good game of which one would you keep, so here goes. I usually have a pretty good idea which one I like best. If I'm really not sure, I go ask the wife and that usually seals the decision. In this case, there is not a clear cut winner. I am leaning towards one, but it is ever so slightly. What do you guys think?

This is a pair of very obscure WITHDRAWN FREE Carling's Red Cap Ale cone tops. Matt M. landed a nice indoor one of these a while ago and he started a thread with a nice discussion on the rarity. I was unable to locate the thread to link it. Since then I landed not only one but two of these (a nice problem to have), although not near as nice as his. Just check out the condition of the USBC can.

Thanks in advance to any and all help.
Jim

Pretty obviously the one on the right....back panels are all better, and there's color on the face

Agree with all. When there is a panel variation I go with the best version of the panel.

I’d keep the right one. Great cans. I’m also interested in your down grade. Good luck picking a winner.
Thanks. Dave

As the independent arbitrator of this, as I do not really collect cans (more a bottle and breweriana person) - I also suggest the can on the right - if the WF statement makes this rare - that whole panel is way nicer and you have more red on the face.
Wanted: Hartford Connecticut Breweriana for my collection.....

Yes, the one on the right because of the back panel.
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

I would soak the can on the right in a half full container of weak/cold acid filled to just below the red color/flip and repeat. Looks like it would improve quite a bit.

Neither, cone tops aren't real beer cans.

Like the pickle said, that's a dilly of a dilemma! I don't see a wrong answer here, honestly, but if these were my cans, I would lean towards the one on the right. I like the color better, even if there is just a bit more rust. Hey, like I always say, I don't mind a little rust on a can- it makes it look older and it gives the can some character.

The can has been soaked twice and I really think it is as clean as it is going to get.

I think this quote really sums it the consensus. So the can on the right is the keeper. The can on the left has been spoken for.

Thanks so much for everyone's comments of these cans. I always like to hear what you guys think.
