Probably 20 years ago - there was an auction captioned "two Schlitz and a Rheingold". The "Rheingold" was a McSorleys. Nobody noticed. That was nice. Matt

Did you win that or did I ? I know I got a McSorleys off eBay way back then , think CMD tipped me off , got it for $212 and moved it along to RAF years later for $212

When people on ebay don't know what they have, and then post very very vague pictures.....it leaves the window open for totally obsessed OI hunters to blow them up looking for subtle 5-6 pixel indications of something rare, now and then you score a $13 Regal Amber WF

Then on the other hand, you're standing around the floor show in Watsonville.....and someone is just tossing around the dollar cans they just got, and you freak out and offer them way more than they paid.....and a eagle eyed businessman like Mike Wilbur recognizes an opportunity and get's you to fork over $40 for his $1 can......but in the end you walk away with an R10 Lilek 464. Of course Mike had no idea what he was holding, but he could see the panic in my eyes......so....technically it was HIS $1 can

Best “dollar” finds.

Paid $1 for the strohs. You never see 16oz fan top cans.

Paid $5 for the Goebel in a junk box.

This was my best find of 2019. I did not get it out of a dollar box but I was very pleased with the deal considering how difficult they are to find in any condition.

Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

Two things: Yes, I did win the auction 20-25 years ago for the "Two Schlitz and a Rheingold". I sold the McSorleys in around 2003 when I sold off my original collection. Not sure who got it. With regard to the referenced Fox Deluxe from Grand Rapids, that also came from me, and I agree its a super tough can. Just cannot find them. I'm happy you go it and are happy to have it. I think I've upgraded my Grand Rapids cans as far as I'll ever be able to get them (clean but with heavy tarnishing of the gold). I am not aware of any indoor examples of the Grand Rapids 12 ounce cones. Am I correct with that assessment?

I am not aware of any mint or near mint 12 ounce cones from Grand Rapids. Only the quarts seem to be available in that good of condition.

Ah indeed! Leon says in his caption "Very Best One Known to Exist" and I believe that to be a correct statement. Both of my alcohol variations are in similar shape, but that one is definitely a bit better. I have not seen one better than that. Matt

@oldcrowncollector it looks like you can get that Stroh’s 16oz fan tab back from Leon but you’re going to have to pay up to get it! Appears as if Leon is posting can’s on eBay in response to this thread (Hey Leon, Hope all is well! We want you back on here soon.) :

Best dumped can goes to the Silver State. Dug in Wyoming 2010. Best dollar box can goes to the Manhattan Ale. Actually in a box that was 3 for $1.00. Coulda got it for 33 cents, but I was good with the dollar. Got it at a Mile Hi show back in the 80's. I don't eBay, so the closest is getting cans from the RB website. Got the Silver Peak from Mike Wilbur. A rolled sheet, what makes it unique is the extra line of mountains and the CCC40 can code. When the USBC guys photographed it at the Albuquerque Canvention, we decided to put it in the test can section. Lastly, the cone lid on the Century was from a donor Rainier Ed S. sent me for free. Sadly, the can is gone but the lid lives on!

In the mid 90's when I was just getting back into collecting, I bought this Acme for a dollar at a local antique show. It was only later that I realized it had a 3.2% statement on the side. Almost 25 years later I've yet to see another.
