took a chance on some tabs

#1

Post by Ziphippie »

Guy had them on CL, here’s the pics and an asking price of $300. I could see a minty Ohio zip and thought what else could be hidden? All the cans were boxed up. We met and he told me his parents lived on the east coast and Texas in the early 70’s and the cans were kept behind glass. That was enough for me- I told him I’d give him the asking price. I’m going to look at the collection later, found a couple early tab gems on the top row in some boxes. Ziphippie

I love those moments. Just had a similar experience although the cans were stored in a damp basement. 97% were in rough shape.
Great job! Look forward to seeing what you uncover.

Got to the bottom of the first box marked ‘F’- looked pretty good when I cracked the cardboard separating the layers. Ziphippie

Some goodies here- small opening ring pulls. We dumped some of the West Bend Old Timers with this top lid (and cases of flats) at Ahoville this spring, didn’t see any Bocks! Ziphippie

The Land of Lakes and Hi-Brau will be rubbed when I can give them the attention they deserve. Zoinkss stopped earlier to have a peek but there are no indicators on the LOL. I’m rubbing it anyway. Zip and juice tabs next. Ziphippie

Thanks for the comments and messages guys. Just getting caught up - I might keep that Strohs for my growing MI collection, LEON.
The local guys always get first picks but a lot of these cans will become available as most of them focus on WI cans.

The original collector had a vague list of cans that was typed up and when his son handed it over the top sheet was pretty boring. Alphabetically, the usual suspects:
A-1(4)
ABC(2)
ABC ale(2)
Adler Brau
etc., the only thing interesting on page 1 was a Big Cat(3)
So, I flipped the book open real quick and saw a ‘Spur’ listed. I closed it not wanting to know what possibly could have been. I would rather hunt, now I was thinking....ABC from Garden State and Wagner but, what if.....Chicago.
I put the ‘A’ box aside and opened it last. Ziphippie

Would it be possible to post a pic of the tab lid on the Kol? I'd like to see if it's documented on the composite list. And which brewery name in the mandatory.
Thanks!
