Looking for feedback regarding feedback.

#1

Post by Diamond State Boy »

Been doing some buying and selling on ebay lately.
When someone buys from me it ships the next day if the post office is open.
I give positive feedback as soon as they pay.
Usually have similar results from people I buy from.
My question is what kind of feedback do you leave someone who takes 10 days to get a can to your mailbox?...negative is just gonna get a negative back tho unjustified. (I paid within 2 mins)
Just don't leave feedback?..positive feedback with a ho hum comment?
What to do?

Give them positive feedback, but give them low marks on the "How quickly did the seller ship the item" category.

Sellers can't leave negative feedback. Ebay changed to that policy a few years back. I buy and sell on Ebay and really don't agree with the policy. Really opens up sellers to essentially blackmail from an unethical buyer.

That said, to answer your question, I would either leave no feedback at all, or, leave positive but mention slow shipping and as stated give low "star" marks for shipping speed.

Personally, as a buyer I always leave positive feedback as soon as I receive an item and it's all good. As a seller, I absolutely never leave feedback until the buyer has for me first. As stated, the buyer has all the power on Ebay. As a side note, I am continually amazed at how many people never take the time to leave feedback. A lot just don't take the time.

That's out of their control, unless you're willing to pay for Priority Mail or overnight. I've shipped small boxes to Wisconsin and Ohio and they took, on average, 6 - 7 days to get there almost every time.

Did the seller offer any explanation for the slow shipping? I bought some cans recently and the seller e-mailed and said he was called out of town unexpectedly. He said he would ship them a week later (today) when he got back. I suppose it could have been a lie but I am going to accept his story and give him positive feedback as long as the cans are okay.
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

I wouldn't give a negative feedback on ten days unless the seller advertised next day shipping via Priority Mail. Anything less than five stars has in impact on a seller's rating, so I'd probably base the shipping rating on how many days the listed expected delivery date was missed by. I'm pretty easygoing and don't expect people to ship the next day unless they specifically advertise that they will do so.

Not everybody is retired and can get to a Post Office whenever they want. With my last job I was at the office long before the Post Office opened, and didn't get home until well after they closed. It took my whole lunch hour to drive to the nearest one, wait in line, then drive back without enough time to get through a drive-thru. Missing lunches wasn't worth it for me, so I always emailed people saying I'd get their boxes out at the next coming Saturday. Never got a complaint.

I don't think this is a fair statement. I work 8:30-4:3/5 Monday-Friday. Sometimes it is really tough for me to get to the Post office. If someone purchases something on a Monday, I may not have the chance to get to the PO until Saturday morning. I will try to get to their sooner, but I also have 2 small kids and stuff happens. As long as the buyer and seller communicate is there really a problem shipping 3-4 days after payment is made once in a while?

Neither is the case...purchased on a Wednsday shipped on a Monday and no communication. My fault for expecting everyone to be as ocd as myself. Everyone made valid points and I appreciate the feedback.
My job is very flexible and I can pretty much come and go as I please as long as my work is done. I forget that its not like that for most people. I'll be leaving positive feedback for the can. Thanks again everyone!

I work in downtown Dallas and usually use the main post office just west of downtown. Because I use the main PO in a large metropolitan area, i am fortunate that my stuff usually makes it anywhere in two or three days tops, even if I use first class or parcel post.

When I sell, I never leave feedback until the buyer leaves feedback. When I buy, if the item arrives intact and as advertised, I leave positive feedback. No sense in getting into feedback battles. Too many possible reasons why a transaction didn't go flawlessly. For starters, the postal service can take 5 or 6 days to deliver 2 day priority mail. A lot of sellers aren't professional sellers. They have other jobs, kids, illness, car problems....cut them some slack. E-Bay would tell you as long as a transaction is finalized within 30 days, its all good. Check feedback before you buy to see if past problems exist.

Some of the issues in this thread explain why I use Priority Mail as often as possible. I print the postage at a discount on ebay then leave the package on my porch. It's very convenient.

^^^^ what Marc said. What did the auction say as far as shipping? I sell on there in sporadic spurts and depending on what time of the year i can only ship on Saturdays and even then i may have to work and possibly miss the PO by 12. I clearly spell it out in the auction though. Sometimes people wait till all of their auctions are paid for so they don't have to make multiple trips to the PO. Nothing worse than listing 15 items, having 14 of them paid for quickly and when you get home from PO 5 days later only to see the last guy finally paid. Not everyone lives close to a PO, has a job that allows them to go there everyday and sometimes life throws a curve ball and gets in the way as well. If everything else was fine give the person a Positive but maybe write in a low slow on shipping. No harm no foul.

For me, as far as buying goes, my first judgement after paying, is how long did it take them to get it marked as shipped, compared to what if anything they say about their shipping policies. After that, how long did it take to go from being "marked as shipped", to being "accepted" or "picked up" from the post office... that's what will contribute to the amount of stars that get checked for speed of shipping.

The shipper can't be held accountable for how long it takes USPS etc. to get it to me. I've had shipments bounce around in states that they never should have been in, on their way to me, which is frustrating when you can't wait to get your hands on the goodies, but not something the shipper can control.

10 days is too long? Some sellers have full time jobs and do Ebay on the side. Not every seller can make it to the PO the next day and sometimes they may have to wait for the weekend to do the shipping. (I do not sell on Ebay myself). If I got something in 10 days or 20 days I would not neg the seller or rate 'em with a low number.

Be honest with your self - everyone is way too nice and ignoring the issues, 10 days is way too long! What does his other feedback look like?

If you are a seller and it DOES take 10 days to ship, indicated that in your posting - let the buyer be ware.

You could leave positive or neutral feedback and say 'took 10 days to ship'. My $.02

Thanks Boardman...I was starting to feel chastised for a simple question. People need to read the whole thread b4 they go on the offensive. I already left positive feedback as stated earlier. The I ship on Saturday stuff doesn't fly when you buy on Weds and it ships on Monday and tracking is provided on Tuesday...and if thats how you roll tell people. Sheesh! :smt014

Back in the day before the internet.....was happy to receive something in 3 to 6 weeks. Folks these days want everything instantly or close to it. 10 days is too long? Wow.

I find it hilarious that many people have to have that can in 2 days.

Why are sellers charging $8.00 priority shipping and why are buyers paying it?

Remember when we sent checks and postal money orders to each other? How long did that take?

Where is the fire?
