Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
Some pre-pro eye candy showed up in my mailbox today!! Very early tray from Virginia Brewing out of Roanoke VA, with cork bottles advertising their Export and Pilsner brands. I don’t chase trays or pre pro items, but with this being Virginia Brewing Co out of Roanoke (30 minutes up the road from me) and the home of Olde Virginia and Virginia’s Famous beer, this was one of those “must have” items for me! In addition, I have a couple of different pre pro shoe shine brushes advertising the brewery as well as all cans and some labeled bottles from the brewery so I may make a separate display of my Virginia Brewing Company items.
I think it is a fantastic looking tray and would love to learn any additional information about it of if any other examples are even known to exist.
The only tray that could top this one for me would be to find one from the Bluefield Brewing Co. in Bluefield WV, but I’m not holding out hope there

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
I stumbled on this guy on ebay with about 2 minutes to go and thought I scored a nice deal until I looked closer and what I thought was rust was a crack along the bottom seam where the beer leaked out. Still a great looking can and $200 is a lot better than $5000.

Yes, that is certainly a beautiful can. I think it was a good day for you.
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

I looked at the Fountain Brew more than once but it appeared to be separating from the bottom… love to see a close up of what is happening there.

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
I would say that is an accurate description of what is going on with this can, the crack runs about 30% around the can. Too bad because other than that it is very clean and has great color. At least you know it has the original cap I guess. I will give it the usual wd40 treatment.cantankerous wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 11:08 am I looked at the Fountain Brew more than once but it appeared to be separating from the bottom… love to see a close up of what is happening there.

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
When I sold my crowntainers, I knew I would still collect them and I told myself, I will be calm this time around; LOL. But, when this one came up, I had to have it. To my knowledge, it is only the second one known. The other one, I won't name names because I haven't asked him, is beautiful 1+ can, but this is no slouch, soooooo happy, solid Grade 1 I think. Number 139 in my new collection. Dull Gray Oertels Victory can crowntainer; check. For me, this is a holy grail can. Added a pic of a couple rare Sunshine cowntainers. The one on the left is super rare, not many known. It only says Beer, not Light Beer on the bottom as the more common, though not easy, Sunshine crowntainers. The one on the right, another only two known crowntainer. The big difference is the S in the sun on the top, but the back panel is also different, the one on the right, I believe, was a very very short run transition can.

Huh? Are you saying you no longer have the 200+ different crowntainers in the fancy frame you got from your wife? When did this happen? I do not recall seeing this reported in the Post-Dispatch.

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
Nice thing about having a rough dumpers corner is you can add cans you thought you’d never get $120 bin ebay .. I figured that’s about a $500 hole on the back
To me it makes Goog Goog sense !

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
Arrived today. It was supposed to be here last week. I got a little worried when I went to the Post Office and they couldn't find it but all is good.
Always looking for West Virginia breweriana from Fesenmeier and Parkersburg.
12 oz. US flat tops.

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
I've been chasing this framed photograph for a few months and finally got it last week. Atlantic Ice & Coal Co. Sales Meeting January 4-5,1937. There is an Atlantic billboard on the far right in the background with the waiter on it.
I assume this was Atlantic sales staff & employees from all five brewery locations across the southeastern United States. The offices & warehouse are directly behind them, and the brewery is the building on the far right. I also have a different long photo with about 10 Atlantic delivery trucks lined up in the same place as the salesmen that kind of matches this one.
I am very pleased to add this to my Atlantic collection.

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
Cool! That is exactly the historical type of breweriana that I like. I would rather have something that shows what day to day operations were like at the brewery than a can or sign.

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
Nothing too exciting to tell really. A long time collector had the can and I believe he has had it for some time. He decided to sell it and I was fortunate that he contacted me. I'm proud to be the current caretaker.

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
This Steinerbru is a can I've waited decades to shelf. I have had only a few opportunities over the years to find one. Usually it's the same painted can or the gold is faded, the price seemed silly, or it wasn't for sale sitting on a shelf. It is an under the radar can that is pretty tough to find. Got it four months ago and yesterday it finally made it's way home to it's brothers in Yucatan, MX. I don't even collect cone tops but make exceptions for Atlanta cans...

Re: New Acquisition Wednesday
It's nice to see so many guys adding nice cans in this difficult market!
I recently made my first purchases since March, and I'm thrilled. The Southern Select is by far the best dumper I've seen in 25 years of chasing J-Spouts. I've been the underbidder on four or five metallic Tru Blu Ales over the past couple years, and I'm really pleased that this one is the tough variation with 'Double Lined' loose in the text panel rather than boxed off. The Schmidt's is an upgrade to a dumper, and is the tough variation with 'TM Reg US Pat Off' on the back instead of just 'TM Reg' (i.e., the match to the Ale with five lines of text bottom face).
