Help needed from Minnesota dumpers

#1

Post by Canoe »

My brother Tom and I will be traveling to the Brainerd MN area later this month for the Hoefer family reunion. In between obligations, we'd like to find some Minnesota Rust! Neither of us has dug Minnesota before, so the usual local brands would be exotic for us. We both collect all flats and cones.

Is there still some hope in the immediate are of Brainerd? Is there a resort dump around there with some life left in it? Any general advice?

Dan and I are both "dumped it ourselves" guys, and since neither of us have dumped up there, we need everything, Schmidts, Grainbelt, even Hamm's. I will have a car, so we could travel a bit to get into good locations. The Gull Lake area seems to be a classic dumper's dream spot, which means it was probably hammered back in the 70s, but I am guessing a totally dug dump would still hold interest for us. I would gladly bring home a sack full of mystery cans and consider it a (mild) success. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I dug a little in Voyagers National Forest last year. Check in the woods behind cabins. I found a bunch of rust behind the cabin we stayed at. Glueks crowntainers, Cold Spring cones, Hamms, and even a Red Cap Ale flat. Goog luck!

The property up north is tough these days since most is posted. What are the dates? I live 15 miles from brainerd.

Blake, we'll be there from 7/26-29 staying at Cragun's on Gull Lake. Message us if you want to try to join us. We are not 100% sure when we will try to get out, due to family obligations.
