Re: Drewrys cans. Accent wall need

Anybody ever see skeeter dawson's billy garage? I sent him maybe 150 over the years. Has Paschedag ever done anything with his white Rheingold mountain? Me, I'm totally keeping my Red Devil (Black Label) collection. It's still in the Virginia backyard where I found it, not worth the gas to bring home.

Re: RB Facebook vrs RB forum

The majority of the old crew here seems to prefer facebook. I don't know how to tilt the balance back. Is it just that FB is free? I have a FB login that I use every three or four years for one reason or another, and within seconds I immediately regret it. Everything that is wrong with regular real ...

Re: Morean Auction 8-28-2022

There are a few grail cans out there for me, and Dan is auctioning them off with some regularity. So I have to watch, and save. I've consigned a few cans off the shelf for these auctions (Not Dan's, I rarely have trade bait of that quality), some of which have sold for "too much" money and so I feel...

Re: Need advice on lacquer/shellac coated can

I almost think we need to post a how-to video on this. What say the guys who've developed techniques? I was just about to recycle my salsa jar the other day... I did several hundred of these about ten years ago, from an early collector who'd used several different lacquers over the years. Some clean...

Re: I Compared CONE TOP Auction Prices

In answer to a previous question, yes, there have always been at least some outliers. Here in the east there was a particular seller and a particular buyer who I saw cross paths at least twice with grotesquely inflated (realized) prices in the 10x range ($400 can with a 4500k tag, $10 misprint sold ...

Re: Flat Top Beer Can Prop in the Disney Classic The Horse in the Gray Flannel Suit

wow, and to think they showed that subversive commie alcohol-pimp movie to me as a grade schooler... it explains a lot. Though in probably every zip dump I've been in, there are zip tops opened with church keys. Old habits die hard, and first gen zips were lethal. I can't not un-zip them when I find...

Re: Morean Auction 7/17/22

I was underbidder on one can in this auction, after winning my first Morean can in the previous one. Another of the same label went off in Lebo's auction last night for about half as much as I paid, but 2-3 grades down (Argonaut). Given the price uptick these days, I'm thrilled I guess. There are re...

I had the world's largest collection of quart cones... and sold it for the down payment on a house, less a few margaritas. I miss the quarts and now can't afford to buy them back, but know I made the right choice.

Coupla OI's from the shelf

Nothing major, just kiboshing one of my subcollections to roll the money into another one. Wilshire Club is $9 inc shipping, it's the one with 'Keglined' at top face. Pabst Export is patent pending Lilek #642, for $19 including first class shipping. Paypal 'friend', check, and if you tell me you wan...

That drain is probably 1/2in pipe thread- if you don't mind replacement parts, you can find new washers and nuts to replace the old ones. Home depot usually has them in the bagged brass plumbing fitting section over in the aisle with supply lines and replacement parts. Or amazon. Or plumbingsupply.c...

The parking/hiding theory is certainly part of it- driven by people with large amounts of dirty money or those who wish to commit fraud. When two or more of them start playing, they can buy and sell to each other, essentially laundering their profits, just not so quickly as to arouse suspicion. I bu...

Re: $150 vs. $11,000 - What am I missing???

I have some crackpot theories but no concrete answer to the question. I did just win my very first Morean auction can after ending up #2 on a dozen or so cans over the years (usually the single rustiest one in the auction) for not an insane price given what the label (Argonaut) has trended toward ac...

Re: Bay State Beer - Lilek 82 question

The find was more like 15 years back, don't have my magazines handy to check, by Keith the Can Doctor in the walls of the tack sheds at a local racetrack. I don't know the breakdown of variations and numbers (not a ton) but those Beers got gobbled up quickly and locked down. Between these and Dave R...

Unlike people who like bock beer, or their home state, or cones of a certain sleek shape, I'd bet there are NO people who like more or less meaningless and intrusive government verbiage. Even folks who collect only IRTP just prefer older cans and that's only a convenient dividing line. WF cans all g...

Too bad you can't explore... years ago I "snuck" into the old National plant in Baltimore, through a gaping hole in the wall they'd used to remove the lagering tanks. Coolest thing was the 5in thick cork insulation slowly peeling off the walls. They refrigerated the room, and apparently aged the bee...

Once upon a time The Can Doctor showed me how to spot a relidded zip. That was before Art got up and running, of course, but with lower grade work it was helpful to have some indicators. And back in the day there was no shortage of Can Medics who were willing to put on whatever lid they were paid to...

Re: Am I Missing Something Here !

I tried that 'maybe the loser of the bidding war is still looking' stunt with a shelfer a few months ago. It was a Circle flat, an early Crown Can version with a different mandatory from the common one, that went for ~$850 on ebay. So I auctioned mine, in better condition, thinking it had been a $75...

I guess the only 'answer' is a timeline of the issue of each type of cabott... alumacone... spun master... capped thingies. I thought the first modern cabottle was the Mich/Mich Light they were selling on cruise ships or something? A friend lucked into some at an old redneck liquor store and sealed ...

I get the rusty yellow fingernails for a couple days. It'll sting in a hangnail. Dishwashing gloves work fine. Oxalic powder isn't one of those concentrated chemicals that kill... oxalic is poison, but a low-level one. I had a bio prof tell me you'd have to eat 13 entire rhubarb pies in one sitting ...
