Rheingold Retro can

#1

Post by Longopener » Mon Sep 02, 2019 8:03 pm

I'm sure these are obsolete now...but I don't recall ever seeing this retro before.

This article is from Florida in 2011. Anyone have this particular can in their trade stock?

I collect all the retro labels like this so keep me in mind.

"Still looking for 2 specific examples of the following cans I traded away years ago.
Berghoff LP cone: indoor with rusted seam and slight touchup on white stripe in upper right of label. Also a copper colored Drewrys "Taurus/Gemini" scene; indoor with yellow smoke damage and top lid half cut out.

Will trade a better examples, other cans or buy from you!

@Longopener
This topic was discussed last summer. Several groups were created but the general consensus that made the most sense was if a Brand resurfaced, it had to look similar to an original design. Here's a link:

This was the final group I came up with:

Rheingold had a retro that was more of a match then the one pictured. Two actually. I do not have the can above either. The two I have are from when they actually tried to restart Rheingold brewing company. Bought and drank more then a few cases. They also did a painted label bottle and applied "painted" label. They were Rheingold "Good Beer" 1930's retro on the caps.

@BrooklynBeer

Do you have an extra of the one you’re talking about?

I’d like one of those if anyone has one as well as the gold banded one.

Let me go look and see. I know I crammed a couple cases in the wall of the bathroom when I remodeled. I might have a couple tucked up in the attic crawl space too. Both "first" cans I have are dated being drank April of 1998 by my father and I (No you can't have either of those) and the last "new" Rheingold of Rheingold brewing Utica is Nov 2001. This was the last attempt of reviving Rheingold as being Rheingold. These pre-date all the retro cans by many years but they are retro cans.

I did not know the gold banded one existed and need one too. But it is not a "revival" Rheingold. They also reused the "good beer" moniker for a while on there "painted" label bottle caps from 98-99. Being I try to save EVERY bottle cap of EVERY beer I have drank for close to 19 years, digging into those case boxes to find them would be a tall order. 3 crates worth. 22 years ago though I did drop 3 years worth of caps down the bedroom wall.
