Surprise dump

#1

Post by bantam10 »

My day was going very slow and was on my way to check an area when I was passing through a lakeside cottage community and noticed a two track! I pulled in and the first ravine to my left I could see a small roadside dump. There was a homeowner there doing yard work and I asked him if I could look around and he said “dig all you want and keep anything you find. Awesome!
What I thought was a small roadside dump turned into a major 20 feet long, 2 feet deep multi residential dump. My instincts were right. 1958-1965 era. Loaded with cans. Blue Sebewaing flats, coke flats, busch zips are some of the better ones I dug. I dug for about an hour and a half and heard several very loud high caliber gunshots right across the trail from me. I’m used to hearing guns so this didn’t bother me. I dug for another 45 minutes as hard and fast as I could because I didn’t want to make a return trip. I was just taking my first break When I hear a vehicle pull up behind me, and from my view I could see an LED light bar and antenna sticking up. Oh boy. I figured someone thought I was trespassing but apparently the homeowner thought that those gunshots were from me and called 911. As you could imagine, cops were coming in a hurry. I told the cop that it certainly wasn’t me and he could tell that it wasn’t. I was not expecting this! I was all good to go but the homeowner was freaked out and I had to leave, but I could keep my finds. Definitely one for the books, however I had dumping anxiety before the day even started and it’s obviously a bit higher now so I probably won’t go dumping until fall. Plus I’m going to be busy throwing the truck back together for summer. Several upgrades and new cans were found!

Sounds like fun, I'm losing count but I've had the Cops show up while I was digging bottles at least 6 maybe 7 times or more now & almost every time the Cops ask if we are burying a dead body. One time a Canoe'er going by in the River even called the cops saying 2 guys were burying a dead body on the River Bank. Next thing we know 2 Cops sneak up behind us with there Guns drawn & pointing at us yelling put your hands up. Got real ugly there for a minute. Whats the rusty surprise can? show before & after Pics. LEON.

I’ll clean them tomorrow but the best one of the day is the one I’m holding above. Only brewed in the spring.

That’s why I always go pit dumping in the middle of nowhere. No nosy people. Now that it’s warm it’s getting very crowded up here.

Looks like a Pabst Bock. Nice, I've only dug two Bock cans in Michigan - a brown Goebel Bock near Midland and a Pabst Blue Ribbon Bock OI in the U.P.

Yeah, you live on the side of the state that gets really crowded when it's warm out. A lot of the land is inaccessible unless you can get permission. It's a tough area, but I've always suspected there are lots of virgin dumps to be had if you can get on the right pieces of land.

Funny you mention that Leon, I have been wanting to ask.....folks posting pictures of digging pits and even at night......has the law ever showed up LOL because honestly if I was LEO, burying a body is exactly what I would suspect!

Obviously keeping the Bock. The top pfeiffer will likely be trashed.

Got the rest clean. Tall bud is a new can as well as the grapefruit soda and shur fine lemon lime.
Tear drop pfeiffer appears to be the enamel version and is likely an upgrade. The split label bud is a massive upgrade and one of my most wanted to upgrade cans. Been on a roll with upgrades.
