eBay Enforcement Stings?

#1

Post by Pbama » Sun Apr 07, 2019 11:46 pm

Anybody know of any stories about eBay setting up a sting to trick sellers into violating their policies? I’ve had more than one buyer try to get me to sell them full cans and I’m not sure they can be trusted.

There would need to be incentive for ebay to take the time to do this. I suppose it is possible but what would the incentive be? I doubt if the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is after ebay but anything is possible.
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

I buy full cans quite often from ebay and have sold quite a few. Ebay enforcement is key word based. If you write the words full and beer it kicks your auction to review. If you state “still has contents” they have never reviewed those listings.

Correct about the nominal enforcement described above. So long as full items are priced above retail (go figure on vintage full) and you make some statement about how the value is in the intact seal on the package, eBay seems to be happy. In some cases I've asked for a scan of a driver's license and match the name to the account and birthdate; my version of due diligence.

I was just thinking the other day of the NJ kid in the late 90s who tried to sell his virginity on eBay. Got a bunch of bids, even spec'ed out his preferred gender, age range, and health status. Yep, charged with solicitation. That was back when you could sell guns on eBay, and porn wasn't segregated onto a 'secret' site. The good ol' days!
Better to drive 950 miles and kick asz than go a thousand miles and get nothing.
