Re: Waldorf lagers
Lilek 854. R7 in dumper condition. That's the first version of that can. Lilek shows 4 variations of the long opener. Probably $25- $40 depending on condition. Nice find!

Congrats on a great haul Ted!
When you’re ready to sell, I’d like a shot at the middle one on the bottom row if not already spoken for

Re: Waldorf lagers
Ted,
What a great find! The 1935 Waldorf cans are quite difficult to find. The Lager is R-10/R-7 in USBC-OI. It's difficult to put a value on these because this variation turns up so infrequently and because two of the later variations are fairly common. I picked up a dumper of the Ale almost 20 years ago when Charlie Bacon dug them, but I never saw a Beer available until a grade 2/2+ indoor example hit eBay about three years ago. I bid over $400 on it and lost. I bought the pair from Gene's collection a few months later without realizing both were the Lilek actuals.
I'm not quite sure how to value these, but I think the price range quoted above would be more appropriate for the more common variations.

Re: Waldorf lagers
This one is definitely Lilek 854 and not 854A. The wording on the panel to the left of label/right of seam confirms that. In the original book there were "12 or so surviving examples … in generally poor condition." The number you've found here would actually be enough to bump this one down to an R-6 instead of R-7. Still a very tough variation, much more difficult than the later ones with writing in the stripe between the opener and instructions. And they cleaned up pretty darn well too. Very nice find my friend!

Re: Waldorf lagers
Yeah, the "In Keglined Cans" statement was used briefly in late 1935. Too bad it didn't appear on the front of the Waldorfs.
Here's a photo of the lids on mine. I haven't seen this statement on any other can.

Re: Waldorf lagers
Bantam ( spell check changed you to Batman!), don't blow them out....you worked hard to find them...enjoy the stack of them for awhile. Ask yourself, if someone gave $40 to go out and dig one more, could you? Probably not....trade them for something equally cool is probably your best bet....

Re: Waldorf lagers
Maybe not you oldest, If the Milwaukee Clubs & Dortmunder Berghoff cones are FB/IR They could of been bought on the same day as these Waldorfs, Or possibly a Month before or a Month after but certainly a pretty similar or close date range. LEON.

Re: Waldorf lagers
Awesome! Oldest dumped cans I can think of found in lower Michigan !!!!
"Still looking for 2 specific examples of the following cans I traded away years ago.
Berghoff LP cone: indoor with rusted seam and slight touchup on white stripe in upper right of label. Also a copper colored Drewrys "Taurus/Gemini" scene; indoor with yellow smoke damage and top lid half cut out.
Will trade a better examples, other cans or buy from you!

Re: Waldorf lagers
Ted, these Waldorfs are really cool but when are you going to find a twelve pack of Patrick Henry magistrate cans tucked up into the rafters of hunting cabin? I would like to upgrade mine to something shiny. :)
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

True but it's out of my budget. I know if Ted finds a twelve pack of them, he will give me a much better deal than that because he is a good guy.Leon wrote: ↑Sat Sep 22, 2018 12:29 pmpinnacle-project wrote: ↑Sat Sep 22, 2018 10:29 amTed, these Waldorfs are really cool but when are you going to find a twelve pack of Patrick Henry magistrate cans tucked up into the rafters of hunting cabin? Ted,
With this find, I think you need to officially change your signature. Not sure to what, but this find has significance. Congratulations, your hard work has paid off!
