Spring dumping in MI and WI

#1

Post by Jay »

I am still cleaning cans from our four day North woods dig. Wiley Robinson, Ken Dodds, my brother Ryan, and I had a good time just getting out. We finished up a pre-war bar dump that gave up lots of Pabst and Miller O/I' variations in great to OK shape. We found a few new dumps and few odd things. I have a few more boxes to go through, but this is pretty representative of the trip.

Too bad we couldn't have drank a beer or two together at the Hotel Aho. Nice pile of cans! Blatz Ale & Fitgers! Never heard of the soda can before.

Yeah Lovegun that kind of sucks. Our dates just didn't line up. We didn't get to the U.P until last Friday. It looks like you guys did well, and had a great time at Chateau de Aho.

I took a lot of pictures of the trip, here's some more of them:

We stopped at Alanson on the way there. Dug a pile no one else had dug and it coughed up this sterling silver baby fork marked Tiffany & Co. I guess baby Sally had to eat with her fingers after dad threw out her fork

Dump is dug out but it's still full of cans

When you live in the desert, that kind of color out of the dirt is amazing
20170512_175938.jpg
Fitgers fresh out of the dirt
20170513_181254.jpg
I dug up this weird coin operated machine. The top tray slides out and it had a glass window and padlock on the back. No idea what this is.

Best can I found, can you tell what it is?

I have tons more if you guys want to see them
I dump cans and cars, if you find old cars & trucks while dumping, please let me know.

They made all kinds of penny coin-op machines for Hershey bars, matches, stick gum to feminine napkins. The tray is usually on the bottom for dispensing, flip the pic. Is that a Sterling Ale? Cool digs-Bjorn

Sterling Ale it is. I pulled it out of the acid after a couple of hours because I thought the red was fading but I think that's just how it is and will soak it a couple more. I'm going to bead blast the coin op machine to clean it up. It's made of die cast zinc.

Did you find the ale where Jay found his other one? Or was this found at a different dump?

Bantam,
This can was found in the same dump as the other Sterling Ale. Someone brought these all the way to the U.P.
