What, no root beer?

Being dad is a funny business, that's for sure. My 4 yr old just declared her mom to be her special grown-up. That's how it goes, it seems. I've had my moments...
Better to drive 950 miles and kick asz than go a thousand miles and get nothing.

A salute to all of our dads and how they helped drink the obscure store brands we would find to build our trading stock. In the mid 70's , I would point to the six packs needed, I was 14, and my dad would buy and attempt to drink. "Dad, need them bottom opened. This three pack put me in business. As soon as he could empty them, I was shipping three-fers around the country for trade with an ad in the BCCA book. Thanks and sorry dad (it was terrible) Would love to see similar stories. Did hear one of you with PB class A from Horlacher, similar.

I started collecting beer cans when my father took me and my brother to Pudget Sound to go Salmon fishing in 1968. Dad used to take my brother and I all over to fish; small rivers in Missouri, over night camping on the sand bars with night lines out. Good memories and good times. When we were in Pudget Sound, the Salmon we caught was being processed and canned for our ride home to St Louis, quite the drive mind you. I was waiting for the Salmon to be done wandering around the parking lot of the Marina. Turns out fishermen are quite the beer drinkers. Beer cans were strewn all over the grass and weeds around the parking lot. Labels I had never seen before. Before you knew it I had a bag full of these cans, Rainier, Old English, Olympia etc. Came home with a dozen or so cans, never looked back from there. Of course then I grew up, Dad sent me off to work and beer cans took a less significant role in my life as life itself took the reins. Work, Family, friends and of course raising my own children. Being a Dad trumps it all. But Beer cans have always been a passion.All because Dad took me fishing.

When my Dad was in Germany in the Army, he drank and enjoyed beer. When he returned home, he concluded all American beer is substandard swill. Despite this, he would choke down a few cans for us from time to time. When possible, we would give it to guests.
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

2023 Shows Attended

* Michigan Chapter Winterfest, January 14, Frankenmuth Michigan
* Cabin Fever Reliever, February 24, Mishawaka Indiana
* Buckeye, March 11, Toledo Ohio
* SummerSwap, July 21 & 22, Frankenmuth Michigan

I pretty much felt the same way when I returned from Germany long ago. But I got over it. Matt

A Little late , but as some of you know I’m a big on collecting stag , mostly because my dad drank it in the 70s and in Osage County where I dug up a lot of beer cans there’s a lot of stag . my dad played some baseball in the late 40s and he was in the service in 51 , I was not born till 66 so my memories are him managing a wrecker service , He passed away in 2016 and my mom asked me if I wanted his old baseball jersey , I had never seen it but I collect baseball stuff and I knew A Jersey from the 40s would be well-made so I said Meh , ok. ... when I got it out of the closet the stag patch blew my mind ( Folk is a small town in Osage County )
It now hangs on the wall down at the farm
