One Can, 3 Labels -Just About Covers The Whole Country
Maybe I'm overthinking this but it's pretty cool (in my mind anyways) ! Uncovered a Canadian Ace Ale under a Duquesne Bavarian tab, as I was working on it noticed the silver in the Canadian Ace was enamel, so i did a test spot and sure enough there was another label under that. There sits this Diet Shasta Root Beer. I'm like sweet, now I get to use my new Soda Can Reference book ! This label only came in a flat top and (circa 1964), which in itself is pretty cool ! That got me thinking. I wounder how long they might have used that label and where it might be from ? So I send Super Soda Can man Dave T. a PM. He said the latest they probably used that label was 66-67 and more than likely west coast. So here is how it looks to me. We have an East coast label- Bavarian, Pittsburgh, PA. A Midwestern label - Canadian Ace, Chicago, IL. and a Shasta - West coast label ! Now the Bavarian (correct me if I'm wrong) is from about 1972 - 74 ? That means this sheet sat on the canning company floor for 6 plus years before it went out the door !

I really like how you leave clean separation between the different labels. Very impressive.

Hmm..... now you've got me wondering. Took a break from the Tab I've been working on and did a test spot on a Duquesne that had 2 different can codes. I wonder if there's a Shasta under it. I know it's a diet soda of some sort.
The federal tax code is 10 times bigger than the Bible with none of the good news

Fun stuff... I guess particular can plants supplied vast regions of the country, especially as they consolidated and disappeared over the years so this coast-to-coast mash-up could happen. Speaking of mash-ups, what's the funniest combination anyone has seen? Like a Jax under a Valley Forge, or a Lone Star under a North Star (RIP, Minnesota North Stars).
Better to drive 950 miles and kick asz than go a thousand miles and get nothing.

I'm also curious as to the can code and which plant/city had the sheet those "cans" came from.

Dear Friends
Here's an example of a common can- Schell's Export- with two different canning numbers on the seam. The number 77 down low and 460 up higher. What's underneath? I don't know yet,

How do you get such a clean straight line between the labels?Randy Karasek
I really like how you leave clean separation between the different labels. Very impressive.

Too bad there's no codes on your can, other than the union logo. Might be Continental. This pic of the Duquesne I have in the queue, you can see the 83 looks to be hand written.

This was the only thing that resembled a canning code.Scott Rollert wrote: ↑Mon May 25, 2020 10:20 am Too bad there's no codes on your can, other than the union logo. Might be Continental. This pic of the Duquesne I have in the queue, you can see the 83 looks to be hand written. IMG_0464.JPG
